A New Month and a Fresh Start

Happy June!

It’s Cara, your friendly, neighbourhood planner girl!

I love flipping over to a new month in my planner. Actually, my kitchen wall calendar is much more fun! It’s more of a dramatic act to flip up that big honkin’ page than to simply turn over a page in a book… but, shhhhh don’t tell Doctor Donna. Yes, I name my planners, yes that’s planners, plural… and yes, Doctor Donna is from Doctor Who 😀

A new month is a clean slate and to me it means hope and a fresh start. New plans and new goals… oh and of course an excuse to decorate a new page!

I got my May kits just in time to decorate for this week and my June spread in my Commit30 planner. I was in the shower when I heard the bell and rushed out, threw on my clothes, hair dripping all over the floor, to catch the postman! Otherwise, I’d have to wait a whole extra day to pick it up! No worries, I got it!!

JUNE spread

I started with that gorgeous washi from Bella Blvd’s Illustrated Faith. I usually add washi to the bottom but I got a little reckless and added it to the top this time 😉 The matching patterned paper ‘She Blooms’ really balanced the pages. I added some banners, made with strips from The Starlit Sprinkle exclusive paper from the Hip Kit by Kim Watson, a few of her die cuts that are also exclusive to The Hip Kit Club and strategically sprinkled some enamel dots (Summer Party by Echo Park) and hearts (also from the Illustrated Faith ‘She Blooms’) and sequins (Jillibean Soup). ‘JUNE’ is written in puffy alphas by Hip Kit Club. The navy felt bow from Illustrated Faith is the perfect finishing touch.

For some reason when I was reaching for product for my projects for this specific week, I was drawn to the feathers, not really sure why at the time, other than they were my favourites from the kits, but as the projects came together and as I look at them as a whole now, they really tell a story.

The last few weeks have been really busy for me and my planner has been full of appointments, errands and to-do’s.  I think subconsciously, I was looking for a slower pace for this coming week.

Again I wanted to use that pretty floral washi from BB’s Illustrated Faith line, but after that, the majority of the decoration is soft and pastel. Pale turquoise and subtle polka dots for my daily lists (punched from the ‘Dance in the Blue’ paper from Kim Watson’s Meadowbrook line), pink and that same soft turquoise die cuts (also Kim’s) with just a hint of soft navy.

May-31--June-6

I love naming my week, a habit I picked up from Amy Wyler, and after finishing the spread I was stuck… what should I call my week as we jump into June.  I really was stumped!  After staring at it for a bit I realised it was time to start dinner and I left it.

When I came back later, after doing the night’s dishes, I was kind of surprised by how airy and bright the spread was and the word ‘light’ popped into my head. This week will still be busy, I won’t be having a ‘lite’ week, but by naming it ‘light’ (with the Bella Blvd alphas), I hope for it to be less stressful. Then, this morning when I saw it again along side my 2 other projects, I realised that all the feathers reflected my wish for a ‘light’ week. Sometimes our brains tell us things without us even realising!

Mini Dashboards

The mini dashboards both have feathers. The PL card is by Kim Watson for the HKC Project Life kit. I covered up the name of the month with a die cut and one simple enamel dot. This is totally off style for me, and again I think its simplicity is coming back to wanting a light week. I plan on putting pictures of one of my big dreams on this card and keeping it in a promenant place so that I can keep my dream front and centre, which will help me plan and then take steps to make it come true.

The second card is one of the die cut frames from Jillibean Soup. I used my Caran D’Arche Watercolour crayons to add some colours that match my other projects and then made it into a shaker 😀

Both cards are backed with Kim’s ‘Summer Breeze’ paper.  I think this is my favourite paper form this month, both sides 😉

Please tell me in the comments what your plans and goals are for the month of June or even for just the next week.

Happy Planning!!
