How to limit your color palette |Kim Watson

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you are feeling like a little early week inspiration to get you in the crafty mood? Today I am going to show you how to limit your color palette with great results.

My page today used the ever versatile February 2017 kits…who would have known bits from this kit could be coordinated to create this gorgeous palette:

Teal, Lime & Yellow

Together by Kim WatsonKimWatson_Together_HKC01 scene

Having pulled out a selection of ephemera by Crate Paper & Little Pink Studio and a vague idea of the type of page layout design I wanted to try, I added watercolor splatters in three areas around the page, creating the perfect canvas on which to layer the other elements. My color choices were inspired by Claudia’s tags & painted flower die cuts, pulling out the teal, lime & acid yellow.

KimWatson_Together_HKC02

Initially I was worried that the pink on the tropical tag would mess with my palette, so covered a few of the pink flowers with blue die cuts. As I progressed with the page I realised a few hints of pink here & there actually added warmth & didn’t distract at all. Don’t you love how the scattered pops of gold & yellow give the page life?

KimWatson_Together_HKC03

The photo, cut into a 2,5″ x3,5″ tag shape, really reinforces my grid design. The straight edges & tweaked width, helps with the overall symmetry and the twine bow adds subtle texture to the top of the page. Following the naturally forming lines, I built my grid design, filling extra spaces with smaller elements. It is a fun way to use up left over embellishments without cluttering the page.

KimWatson_Together_HKC04

As you have probably noticed, I lost my second ‘E’, in the title: ‘Together’ haha! The funny thing is I only noticed it whilst editing my process video, which meant I had to go back & MacGyver an ‘E’ with the space there was AND do it in such a way so it doesn’t look like an obvious mistake. Every time I look at it I can’t help but laugh…it is really a case of not being able to ‘see the wood for the trees’ LOL!!

Anyway..I also wanted to mention a fun way to jazz up your journaling. I bought the February 2017 PL kit, included was the cutest stamp & notelet set from Paige Evans Oh My Heart. I used some of those little stamp prompts within the body of my journaling. Fun idea hey? It not only adds color, but emphasis to important parts of the text too.

KimWatson_Together_HKC05

Lastly, I added a gorgeous butterfly tag & embellished it with a fringed butterfly accent & ephemera from both Maggie Holmes & Paige Evans. The result is a sweet cluster of butterflies & hearts with an appropriate sentiment.

I really hope you have found this inspiring. Limiting your color palette can be a fun way to challenge your creative process. I look forward to seeing your pretty pages in our member gallery on FB. Be sure to let me know when you post them, so I can leave you some crafty love. Have an awesome Monday peeps ~ Kim X

Pure magic by Anna Komenda

Hello everyone. It’s my turn to inspire you today 🙂 I got my March kits few days ago and I just couldn’t resist diving into them right away. They are so beautiful and fresh. This is exactly what I need on my desk after a long winter. And have you seen March cut files? They are gorgeous too. Rainbow with clouds designed by Kim Watson is fantastic. I love using many colors on one page and what would be more perfect to do that than a rainbow?

1

I decided to use some soft background but not white because I used white cardstock from Cardstock kit to cut the rainbow. I chose light pink paper from “Chasing dreams” collection called “Royal”.You can find it both in Main kit and in Paper kit.

DSC_8173

I colored the rainbow with watercolors and backed the clouds using blue cardstock from Cardstock kit. I aslo added a layer of vellum to soften up the clouds. Parrot and cute hot air baloons are in the perfect spot. They are both from “Lovely day” ephemera by Dear Lizzy. You can find them in Project Life kit. This ephemera pack is filled with beautiful, whimsical designs.

March kits are filled with rainbows. You can find them on every item from Pinkfresh Studio collection “Dream on”. I used this cute little rainbow from puffy stickers pack. I just couldn’t resist. I created a title by fussy cutting another beautiful paper from Main kit – “Encourage wonder” by Shimelle. This paper is a great source of titles and inspirations.

Those shiny hearts are gold acrylic mirror stickers and I love them. This is a product manufactured by Pinkfresh Studio and it gives great texture to the page. You can find them in Embellishment kit along with rubber charms.

I hope You like my page. I also have a process video for You 🙂

Thank You for stopping by and see You soon on Facebook.

Envelope Pockets & DIY Embellishments

Hello Hip Kits fans! It’s Zinia here to my last project using the February 2017 Hip Kits. I had so much fun using these kits and I created a bunch of different projects throughout the month but I’m really excited to start playing with the March kits as soon as possible.

Envelope Pockets & DIY Embellishments Using February 2017 Hip Kits @abstractinspiration #ziniaamoiridou #cratepaper #maggieholmes #wrmk #hipkitclub

This layout was pretty hard for me. My first couple of ideas didn’t really work out so it took some time and experimentation to get here. If you are curious about the whole process, you can watch the process video bellow:

I really wanted to use my envelope punch board to create some pockets and fill them with the beautiful Oh my Heart cut apart specialty paper that came in the Paper Ad-on Kit. I measured the cut apart pieces I wanted to use and I created envelops in the closest size. Then I cut off the top flap and turned them into pockets.

The embellishing part was much easier. I went for my go-to embellishment from this month’s kit, the butterflies. I also used a few florals from the Chasing Dreams sticker sheet that came in the Embellishment kit.

I also used the Color Kit to create some DIY embellishments. I mixed the AcriTonez with some heavy gel, spread them through the stencil and fussy cut them to create some lovely geometric hearts.

(During the photoshoot, my little assistant did a thorough check to make sure everything was good)

Before I go, I want to show you some more pages from my traveler’s notebook minibook for February.

February 2017 Traveler's Notebook by Zinia Amoiridou @abstractinspiration

In some spreads I tried to keep things very minimalistic. When there was an item I really loved, I didn’t want to stuff it on a busy page. I preferred using it on a simple spread so that it’s on the spotlight.

February 2017 Traveler's Notebook by Zinia Amoiridou @abstractinspiration

I really tried to implement as much stamping as possible. I really enjoy playing around with stamps in my traveler’s notebooks and this one is not exception. I absolutely adore the Oh my Heart stamp set that came in the Project Life kit.

I also used some interactive elements like this file folder to “hide” a goofy photo of my boyfriend and his valentine’s date.

When I’m working in my traveler’s notebook I always try to use the products that I wouldn’t normally use in my scrapbooking.  For example I don’t often use washi tape and tags on my 12×12 pages, so I made sure to include them in my TN and use them up in my lovely notebook spreads.

So these are my projects for today. I really hope you enjoyed them and you got inspired to create something with your February Hip Kits. Make sure to stop by the HKC Facebook page and the HKC Member Forum for even more inspiration.

Until next time, happy scrapping🙂

Happy, so happy | Kim Watson

As a subscriber you get the privilege of enjoying some fantastic exclusive cut files. This is one of them…The Fringed Butterfly. All I can say is WOW! The February 2017 kits are so, so pretty…the butterflies & the amazing colors, are what make this craft so much fun!

Happy by Kim Watson

kimwatsonhappyhkc01(For a detailed step by step on how I put this cut file together, be sure to watch my process video; see below.)

Starting with the cut file, but keeping in mind it would dominate a big portion of the layout, I started arranging things around the page. Tilting the butterfly to the left, left space plenty of space in opposite corners, which was how I solved where to place my photograph. kimwatsonhappyhkc02

I took the piece of ‘Oasis’ paper from Crate Paper & fussy cut a selection of roses suitable to fill the corners. The clusters, decorated with chipboard stickers & wood accents add to the bright, exotic feel of the page. I love how keeping them snug against the corners grounds the design without it looking too busy.

kimwatsonhappyhkc03

Fussy cut butterflies from Chasing Dreams were exactly what I needed to decorate the wings of big cut file butterfly. Using the x2 different sizes add dimension & balance.

I hope you have found this inspirational?  I had so fun creating it & I know you will too! Thank you so much for stopping by. Remember to grab our complimentary cut files to help you make the most of your kits.

Thursday inspiration with Cara Vincens, Anna Komenda and Terhi Koskinen

We’ve got a treat for you!

Starting with this new term, Thursdays are going to be a whole lot of fun! It’s Cara, Anna and Terhi here today and we are the first to tackle the new 3-way challenge! Each Thursday, 3 design team members will be given a product, kit or idea to create with. We’ll post them here to inspire you with 3 different ways to use the same thing. Hopefully, you can come up with even more ideas.

This first POST is to use only the Main February kit. Cara and Anna will show you two ways how to create with the main kit, and Terhi is showing her colorful technique with thickers!

Cara’s up first:

march-spread-blog

I was soooo tempted by all the fantastic goodies in the other kits (especially those fringed butterflies) but there are so many gorgeous things to play with in the Main kit that it was easy to resist, besides I’ll get to play with those later 😉

I love a fresh start, a blank slate and there’s nothing like a new month to get me motivated. I’ve decorated my March monthly spread in my Commit30 planner using 3 Maggie Holmes Chasing Dreams patterned papers (Delicate,Collected and Monarch), and The Crate Paper Oasis Getaway paper (Oh that floral!!).

I started with that beautiful Monarch paper and I chose 3 butterflies that would best match the Getaway floral paper and fussy cut them.

hello-ig

I also fussy cut the ‘Dreams are for chasing’ sentiment from the Collected paper and cut strips from Delicate for my borders.

dreams-igThe Maggie Holmes Ephemera pieces and her Collected Chipboard stickers were a ‘dream‘ (I love a good pun ;D) to work with. I topped the spread off with a cute gold puffy heart that I made into a planner clip. I hot glued a chipboard heart sticker to the back of it to hide the clip and adheasive.

Happy Planning!

Anna is next with her take on the February Main kit:

1

Hello. First of all let me tell You how happy I am to be back to this fabulous team. It’s my first inspiration in this term and I hope You will like it. As Cara said before – we were creating with February Main Kit only. It was such an easy job, because this kit is filled with many fantastic products. I love all stuff Maggie Holmes and “Chasing dreams” collection is no exception. Ephemera pack is filled with yummy tags, beautiful flowers and other pieces. I decided to go in the “flower” direction.

dsc_7617

And what is a perfect match for the flowers? Butterflies!!! I fussy cut them from one of the papers and added them to my composition. Some chipboard stickers and wooden buttons from “Little by little” and my layout was finished.

dsc_7615

I also have a process video for You. I hope You will enjoy watching it. So sorry for my English on the video. I had some issues with English vocabulary. Blame my age. This brain isn’t working that well anymore 😉

XO Anna

Terhi finishes it up with her fantastic project:

Do you remember the DIY Mistable Thickers from January 2017 Embellishment Kit? I was highly inspired by the colors on my photograph and wanted to add same colorful feeling to the layout as well. By using only regular watercolor I created this beautiful rainbow effect to my scrapbook page, and the same idea can be used to any embellishments. Rest of the products used on this layout is from January Main Kit, please give special attention to the exclusive papers. I just can’t have enough of them!

Go ahead and grab your watercolors and start all the fun!

WE hope you are loving our new Thursdays as much as we!

Mixed media Dream Catcher | Kim Watson

Engaged by Kim Watson

_kimwatsonengagedhkc01

Hi friends…Kim here, with a new page using the January 2017 kits & one of the amazing free subscriber cut files designed by Jessica Fabiano, to commemorate my brother’s exciting engagement on 3rd February 2017. We are so looking forward to their up and coming wedding & I wanted to create a page that was super special. The mixture of cut files, and mixed media helped me achieve the perfect look.

kimwatsonengagedhkc02

I had fun with the base page by creating a lovely collage of gesso, texture paste, Shimmerz, watercolor & gold mist. Then by cutting the dream catcher file in white cardstock, as well as patterned paper, I was able to create a 3D drop shadow effect. By attaching only the frame, I left the feathers loose further adding fantastic dimension.

kimwatsonengagedhkc03

Taking x3 feather ephemera from the Pink Paislee pack in the main kit, I slipped them in between the x2 cut file layers adding some pops of color. The cool thick cork adds, interest & contrast scattered around the page, balancing out the soft colors.

kimwatsonengagedhkc04

kimwatsonengagedhkc05

Layered frames & a notelet create an interesting cluster, decorated with puffy stickers & butterflies are the perfect detail for the bottom left side of the page.

kimwatsonengagedhkc06

Wanting a bright title, I got a little messy with the canvas alphas found in the January 2017 January kit. I covered my process in my technique video…but basically it is layers of gesso, x2 shades of pink paint & Heidi Swapp gold mist. The effect is fantastic!!

I really hope you liked my page & idea. I hope you are inspired to create a similar design with your January kits. Remember if you are looking for a great crafty community, be sure to join the HKC Facebook page and the HKC Member Forum.

Happy crafting friends 🙂

DIY Vellum Embellishments & Circles | Zinia Amoiridou

Hello Hip Kits fans! It’s Zinia here to share with you a really fun layout I create using the January 2017 Hip Kits.

img_2747-edit

The general idea for this layout can be created using just the main kit. In my layout I cheated a bit and used some embellishments from the embellishment and the project life kit but if you are subscribed only to the main kit, you can definitely make it work and use some different embellishments.

To begin, grab your favorite pattern papers from the kits and punch 1″ circles. You can use different sizes of circles if you want and adjust the design accordingly but I really loved how the 1″ circles are not too big nor too small for this page. This is a really great design to make use of any little leftover scraps you had from previous layouts.

img_2759

Arrange the circles in three columns and stick them on a piece of white cardstock. That will guide our main design.

To start embellishing get a sheet of vellum from your Cardstock add-on kit and  transfer some of the butterfly rub-ons on it. Use your scissors to fussy but the butterflies and create some adorable DIY vellum embellishments.

img_2758

To stick the butterflies on the page, fold them and place a little bit of adhesive in the middle. This way they will add a really whimsical feel and some extra dimension to the page.

img_2755

I continued embellishing using some word strips from the Project Life kit and a few floral ephemera pieces from the Main Kit until I was happy with the result.

img_2760

For my title I used a mix of different stickers and alphas across the kits. To balance the gold thickers I used, I added some gold splatters using my Heidi Swapp Color Shine spray.

img_2753

I really hope you liked this page and you got inspired to create a similar design with your January kits. Make sure to stop by the HKC Facebook page and the HKC Member Forum for even more inspiration.

Until next time, happy scrapping🙂

DIY Traveler’s Notebook Insert | Irit Landgraf

Hi and happy valentine’s day! Irit here and today I have something fun and different to share with you! I used my beautiful January 2017 kits to create my own Traveler’s Notebook insert. Here’s my finished project-

17

I used my favorite paper from the main kit as my cover, and added a layer of vellum from the cardstock kit for a softer look.

For the pages in my insert I used different patterned paper. Some the full size of my notebook and some cut down. I like the variety of different sizes.

25

For my embellishments I used the pretty goodies from the January kits. This is such a great way of using those bits and pieces! Since there are so many die cuts and stickers in the kits, I find it easier to keep my color schemes simple, with one or two main colors per spread. This way my choices are narrowed down and my process is faster. Here’s a spread with a blue and green colors scheme.

21

Here’s a slideshow with some more images of my insert. And of course, as always, I created a video tutorial showing how this came together, just scroll down to see it.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

And the video-

Thanks so much for stopping by, I hope you feel inspired to create something beautiful for someone you love!

Remember This | Jana McCarthy

Hi and Hello, Jana here with a new post and Layout for you, created with the January 2017 Kits.
A very short one, because i have 2 of my 3 Boys at home, very sick, fighting some colds and bad ear infections. My days & nights are not the best, but… better times are coming, right?!
So, this Layout is about our little One in the age of four or five months! He was such a cutie…

loveyou1

I know, you´ve already seen a few pages with that big flower, but i couldn´t help myself, this paper was for fussy cutting… I used colored Cardstock – a little challenge for myself – from the Cardstock Kit and i really like how that turned out! The Texture Paste (Color Kit) is also great for the packaging technique, just add some water to the Paste and mix it. It gives a nice effect on the Papers.

loveyou2

The Cork Words are from 1Canoe2 and American Crafts, Hazelwood Collection, it gives some great texture and i love the white dots on it. The Butterflies are also from the Hazelwood Collection and one of my favorite pieces from the Kits! *sigh

loveyou3

The DieCut Pieces from the Moonstruck Collection are also great for Layering – some WoodVeneer Hearts and i call that page DONE! Totally happy about it!

Here is my ProcessVideo for you to watch.

thanks for stopping by today!
