A Masculine Layout Using the February Main Kit Only | Adrienne Alvis

Hello, crafty friends! I’m here today with a masculine layout that I created using the February 2017 Main Kit only…

golden1

My youngest son turned 10 on February 10th, so I was really excited to document his special golden birthday! I had just received my February kits so I challenged myself to create a masculine layout using the Main Kit only and I must say I love how it turned out!

golden2

I began by taking the Spring Break patterned paper from the Oasis Collection by Crate Paper and cutting it into thirds. I placed the middle strip down my page vertically and adhered it to a piece of white card stock, but you can’t tell that from my completed layout because I changed my design halfway through my process (and you can see how that happened in my process video at the end of this post). I layered different strips of patterned paper from the Oasis Collection by Crate Paper along the edges of the middle strip and used my sewing machine to stitch around the edges.

golden6

It wasn’t until I was trying to figure out my title placement, which I created using the lovely gold glitter Thickers from the Main Kit, that I decided to turn my page 180 degrees and go about my design horizontally instead of vertically. I used some of the Shimelle wooden buttons and Maggie Holmes Chasing Dreams gold foil Thickers to create small embellishment clusters around my page. I also added three of the puffy hearts from the Maggie Holmes Chasing Dreams Collection for even more texture and dimension. They were so fun to use and are some of the cutest embellies that I’ve seen in a long time!

golden7

I journaled on one of the Maggie Holmes Chasing Dreams Collection ephemera pieces and tucked it under one of the smaller strips of patterned paper at the bottom of my layout. Be sure and check out my process video below to see how my whole page came together and how I altered it halfway through.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a great weekend! xoxo

Using Rub-Ons and Documenting January 2017 | Adrienne Alvis

Hello, Hip Kit Club fans! It’s Friday and I have two projects to share with you as we head into the weekend!

First up, I have my Project Life spread for January 2017 that I created using items from the January 2017 Project Life Kit

january2

I’m going to continue to use a 9×12 album for my spreads this year and I’m also sticking to a monthly documenting schedule. I printed my photos off from my home computer and placed them in the various 3×4 slots to begin my process.

january3

I used several of the HKC exclusive Project Life cards from the January 2017 Project Life Kit and layered a few of the 1 Canoe 2 Hazelwood Gold Foiled Icon stickers on a few of my photos to add some dimension without adding a lot of bulk to the pockets.

january4

I also layered a few of the Pink Paislee Moonstruck ephemera pieces (available in the January 2017 Main Kit) on a couple of the journaling cards and layered some puffy stickers on top of them. I really love the colors of the journaling cards this month, don’t you?

january5

I kept the right side of my spread cohesive with the left by using the same color scheme and by placing my embellishments on the journaling cards in a visually balanced design.

january6

And here’s a look at my full spread for January 2017…

january1

Next up, I have a layout that I created using the January 2017 Hip Kits to share…

sweetlove1

I was really inspired by the lovely butterfly rub-ons from 1 Canoe 2, but I wanted them to look more dimensional on my layout so I placed them on a piece of vellum and fussy-cut them out. I also carefully bent their wings up a bit so they would look as if they were fluttering across my page.

sweetlove2

I also used the 6×6 stencil from Carta Bella and the Heidi Swapp Metallic Texture Paste in Teal from the January 2017 Color Kit to create the houndstooth design on the background patterned paper from 1 Canoe 2.

sweetlove3

I layered lots of the ephemera pieces from the Pink Paislee Moonstruck collection around my photo and placed several of the 1 Canoe 2 Hazelwood Printed Cork Shape pieces (available in the January 2017 Project Life Kit) on my page for a little color and texture contrast.

sweetlove4

Be sure and check out the process video for this layout below…

Thanks so much for stopping by today and I hope you have a great weekend!

Hello, 2017! | Adrienne Alvis

Hey everyone! I’m sharing a Project Life spread and my first layout using the January 2017 Hip Kits with you today…

First up, I created a title page for my January 2017 Project Life album using the January 2017 Project Life Kit!

titlepage1

I’m doing a 9×12 album size again this year and will continue to document my spreads monthly. This format worked very well for me last year and was a huge timesaver! Plus, this size also helps me keep my albums down to just one a year, taking up less (limited!) shelf space in my craft room. As you can see below, I chose several of the HKC exclusive Project Life cards from the PL kit and layered some lovely embellishments from Pink Paislee and from the American Crafts One Canoe Two collection on top of them.

titlepage2

I chose to use a few recent family photos for my title page and layered two of the Heidi Swapp Instax Golden chipboard frames that are available in the January 2017 Main Kit on top of the smaller photos. The rose gold effect looks stunning paired with the blues and pinks that I used for my color scheme!

titlepage5

Next up, I have a layout that I created using one of this month’s cut files (available here and a subscriber perk!) as the base for my design.

girls1

I cut out the cut file using my Silhouette from a piece of the Pink Paislee Moonstruck patterned paper #11 that’s available in the January 2017 Paper Kit and layered it on top of another piece of patterned paper from the American Crafts One Canoe Two collection.

girls3

I placed my photos on top of the cut file that I elevated using some foam dimensional adhesive and then placed several of the flower ephemera pieces from the Moonstruck collection by Pink Paislee around the photos of my daughter and my nieces that was taken on Christmas Day.

girls4

For an even bolder effect and to add some extra dimension, I fussy-cut flowers from the January 2017 Leaf and Flower Printable sheet and layered them around the existing flower pieces. I scattered a few of the HKC exclusive Frolic vellum heart stickers around the cut file for an added pop of black and white.

girls5

I just love how this layout turned out and how the colors in the photos pop against the mint, pink, and black and white accents! Be sure and check out my process video for this layout below!

Thanks so much for joining me and I hope you have a great weekend!

New Year, New Projects! | Adrienne Alvis

Happy Friday, everyone! I hope the beginning of 2017 is treating you well and that you had a wonderful holiday! I’m here with two projects that I created using the December 2016 Hip Kits beginning with a fun layout documenting the ringing in of the New Year…

newyear1

I used some of the lovely HKC Exclusive patterned paper from the December 2016 Paper Kit for my background and then layered several long, narrower strips of paper from the Amber Star collection vertically down the left side of my page. I also used a few of the lovely December Cut Files that are available for free for HKC subscribers and placed them around the photo of my family on New Year’s Eve.

newyear4

I re-sized the cut files so I could layer a few of them together and I added one of the HKC Exclusive flair buttons from the December 2016 Embellishment Kit in the middle. I also adhered a few of the Pink Paislee Birthday Bash sequins around it for some color pop.

newyear3

My favorite part about this layout is the sequin filled “2017” embellishment! To create this, I simply took a small piece of vellum that fit underneath of the “2017” cut file and used my tape gun to cover it in adhesive. Then I scattered some of the confetti sequins from Pink Paislee on my craft table and flipped the adhesive covered piece of vellum over and smashed it on top of the sequin pile. I lifted it up and a ton of sequins covered the adhesive so I could layer the “2017” cut file on top of it using some foam adhesive to give it some dimension.

newyear2

To complete my page, I placed some of the Crate Paper Heart Day Thickers on top of the sequin embellishment to create my title. I used a little bit of the Shimmerz Paints Shimmeringz spray ink, available in the December 2016 Color Kit, in Concrete for my ink splatters and placed a few more of the confetti sequins around my layout.

newyear5

The next project that I have to share with you today is my Project Life spread for December 2016…

1decpl

Even though I do a December Documented album each year, I still like to include a spread in my Project Life album for December. I try to focus on the “everyday” photos that I didn’t use for my DD and I always end up with more than enough to document.

2decpl

4decpl

For this PL spread I used items and the HKC Exclusive journaling cards from the December 2016 Project Life Kit. I love the soft colors in this month’s PL kit and the purple and aqua are so lovely paired with the gold and yellow accents!

5decpl

I cut apart the 5×7 Phrase Cut-Apart sheet from the kit and layered some of the sentiments directly on top of my photos. I also used several of the Pink Paislee Take Me Away collection ephemera pieces to embellish the journaling cards. I also added several pops of gold using the My Mind’s Eye Gold Mirrored Acrylic stickers from the embellishment kit to complete my design.

8decpl

Thanks so much for joining me today and I hope I’ve given you some inspiration on how to use your December 2016 Hip Kits! Have a wonderful weekend!

December Documented Pages and a Layout Using the December 2016 Main Kit Only | Adrienne Alvis

Hello, everyone! I can’t believe Christmas is almost here, can you? Everyone is really excited around my house for the big event and I’m excited because I get to share some more of my completed December Documented pages with you, as well as a layout using the December 2016 Main Kit!

dd1

I shared the first part of my DD album earlier in the month so be sure and check out that post here. Once again, I used items from the December Documented 2016 Kit for my album, along with some other items from the November 2016 Hip Kits because they coordinated so well with the DD kit!

dd3

For this next round of pages in my DD, I used a few larger photos to fill the pockets and embellished directly on top of them using some of the number die cuts and puffy stickers from the ‘Tis The Season collection by Kim Watson.

dd4

dd6

I also used quite a few of the HKC Exclusive phrase stickers which are available in the November 2016 Embellishment Kit to accent some of my photos and to add extra emphasis and color to my embellished journaling cards.

dd7

Instead of including our family Christmas card in my album (it was too big to slide into a pocket), I took a photo of it next to the envelopes I had just addressed before I sent them  out to family and friends. This also helped me document the actual act of sending them out, so it was a win/win!

dd8

dd10

I also made sure to include a screenshot of the crazy cold weather we experienced last week in my album which I embellished using one of the die cut phrases from the ‘Tis The Season collection.

dd11

dd12

Next up, I have a layout to share with you that I created using the December 2016 Main Kit only…

helloyou1

I started by using the wood grain HKC Exclusive patterned paper piece from the Amber Star collection as my background and then fussy-cut the windows out of the Pink Paislee “Take Me Away” collection patterned paper so I could layer them around my photo.

helloyou2

I also used several of the Take Me Away collection ephemera bits from Pink Paislee to embellish around my page and I added some dimension and height to those pieces using some foam adhesive.

helloyou4

My favorite part of the this layout is the tiny tassels that I placed under the banner ephemera piece! I love how they add so much texture and dimension to my page!

helloyou5

I completed my design by adhering several sequins from the Pink Paislee Birthday Bash collection around my page and by journaling on one of the ephemera pieces from the Main Kit.

helloyou7

Make sure you check out my process video for this layout below and have a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful and safe holiday weekend!

Incorporating A Diagonal Design and Completed December Documented Pages! | Adrienne Alvis

Happy Friday, everyone! I hope your week is going great and that you have lots of crafty plans for the weekend! I’m in full crafty mode right now since the holidays are getting so close to being here. There’s always so much to do, but I love every bit of it! I especially love challenging myself a bit to keep things fresh, so today I have a layout to share with you that I created using a diagonal design.

cold1

Using the lovely November 2016 Hip Kits, I started by choosing the fun bright pink and white striped patterned paper that’s an HKC Exclusive and is available in the December Documented 2016 Kit for my background. I love the diagonal lines and how easy it is to follow along with their design.

cold2

Next, I used the Echo Park Candy Stripe stencil and the Shimmerz Foiled Again Dazzlerz Texture Paste from the November 2016 Color Kit to give my background a little extra dimension. After the paste dried, I layered two photos of my daughter, Avery, posing in her new winter hat on top and fussy-cut a few houses out of the Snow and Cocoa patterned paper (available in the November 2016 Paper Kit) to use as extra embellishments on my page.

cold3

I layered a few strips of patterned paper from the Snow and Cocoa Collection by Crate Paper (available in the November 2016 Main Kit) behind my photos and used some of the HKC Exclusive ‘Tis The Season ephemera pieces to embellish around my photos. I kept my embellishments, title, and design in line with the diagonal stripes on the paper to create my angle.

cold5

I used a black marker to color the wood veneer pieces from Crate Paper and used the “Well Blue Me Down” Coloringz Mist from Shimmerz to paint the white snowflakes from the ‘Tis The Season ephemera to coordinate with my color scheme.

cold2

As an added bonus, I also have some completed December Documented pages to share with you today!

dd1

I shared my foundation pages in a previous post so I am really excited to be filling them up with photos and journaling from our December adventures! I used items from the December Documented 2016 Kit, as well as products from the November 2016 Hip Kits for my album.

dd2

Day 1 and 2 – We took a road trip to Kansas City last weekend so I had some great photos and treasures from our trip to include!

dd3

dd4

Day 3 and 4 – We spent our KC trip ice skating, holiday shopping, and swimming at Great Wolf Lodge. I included several photos on this spread, printing them off of my home computer at 3×3, 2×3, and 2×2 so they fit nicely inside the pockets and still left room to journal and embellish around.

dd5

dd6

dd7

Day 5 and 6 – I spent the next couple of days at home tidying up from our trip and getting back into the routine for the week. The kids made final decisions about their Christmas lists and I enjoyed some peace and quiet around the house.

dd8

dd9

dd10

Day 7 and 8 – I included some elf documentation and embellished one of the journaling cards using some of the HKC Exclusive items from the November kits.

dd11

I hope I’ve given you lots of inspiration for your weekend scrapping plans! Thanks so much for joining me and be sure and check out my process video below showcasing my layout “Wishing For Cold and Snow”!

Have a great day and a fabulous weekend!

December Documented Foundation Pages | Adrienne Alvis

Hello everyone and happy Friday! It’s been a crazy busy week for me with Thanksgiving celebrations, early Christmas shopping excursions, and the kids being out of school for the holiday break, but I have to say that I managed to get a start on my December Documented album for this year and I’m so excited to share some of my foundation pages with you today!

dd2

I used the December Documented 2016 Kit from Hip Kit Club, along with items from the November 2016 Hip Kits for my foundation pages. The album that I chose to use this year is a 6×8 and is made by The Paper Studio. I like to get a jumpstart on my DD by creating my foundation pages right away so when December rolls around I can just print my photos at home and slip them into their designated pockets and add my journaling. Making the foundation pages first is a huge timesaver for me during the busy month!

dd3

I always start with a title page using a 6×8 page protector. I layered one of the Holly Jolly Word and Phrase Cut Apart Sheets, designed exclusively for Hip Kit Club by Kim Watson, on top of a piece of patterned paper from the Snow and Cocoa Collection by Crate Paper (available in the November 2016 Paper Kit) and added several embellishments from the November kits including the gorgeous exclusive chipboard alphabet letter stickers that are included in the November 2016 Main Kit.

dd4

For the first full spread in the album, I continued using patterned paper from the Snow and Cocoa collection by Crate Paper and embellished my pockets using various items from the November Kits such as the Snow and Cocoa ephemera bits and HKC exclusive ‘Tis The Season Puffy Stickers.

dd5

I also used a couple of the exclusive journaling cards from the December Documented 2016 Kit to house my journaling when I start to document our festive month. I left the 4×6 pocket available for a large photo and just placed a piece of patterned paper in it for the time being.

dd6

dd7

I continued adding some of the exclusive journaling cards from the DD kit into the smaller 3×4 pockets and added the numbers for the days in December using a mix of letter stickers from the November kits.

dd8

dd9

I’ve created a December Documented album for several years now, so I’m really familiar with the photo content that I usually gather during the month…for those of you just starting out or if you’ve never done a DD album before, I definitely suggest mapping out a sort of “photo plan” or at least have a few ideas on activities that you will want to include in your album. For the first couple of years, I did more of a daily documentation of our family’s December activities, rather than focusing on major events such as going to see holiday lights or decorating the tree. Since my children are growing up and are no longer at home with me all day, I try to focus more on the typical festive events, such as wrapping gifts, baking holiday cookies, etc.

dd10

dd11

Normally, my photos are the source of inspiration for my creations, so doing it in reverse is sort of a challenge for me. I try to make sure I can easily move or change up my filler card placement in my album until I’m 100% certain where I want something to be after I’ve added my photos. And if I have more photos than I anticipate, I’ll just remove a filler card altogether or place it in a different pocket in my album.

dd12

I’m glad I got the first eight pages of my album started and I’ll make sure and post another update on the rest of them soon!

dd13

I hope I’ve inspired you to get going on your DD album early and if you’ve never created one before then I hope you’ll give it a try! My December Documented album is my most favorite album that I create all year and my family loves looking through them during the holiday season.

And here’s the process video for a few of my foundation pages…

Thanks so much for joining me today and have a wonderful weekend!

A Fall-Inspired Project Life Spread and Using A Large Title On A Layout | Adrienne Alvis

Hello everyone! I used the October 2016 Hip Kits for a fall-themed Project Life insert and a 12×12 layout for my post today.

fall1

I had lots of photos from my family’s recent fall activities that I didn’t include in my monthly Project Life spread, so I decided to create an insert to document some of the highlights from this lovely season.

fall2

I used some of the HKC exclusive Project Life cards from the October 2016 Project Life Kit and embellished them with lots of Dear Lizzy Saturday collection ephemera pieces that are available in the Main Kit.

fall3

fall6

Since my photos had a lot of brown, gold, and greenish tones, I used lots of pink, aqua, and navy for my color scheme. I really like the pops of blue on my spread and I think it coordinates well with my photos.

fall7

Next up, I have a 12×12 layout that I created using one of the cut files from this month that’s available for free to subscribers here along with the lovely geometric style patterned paper from the Posh Collection by Simple Stories.

lovehome1

lovehome2

I added some of the wood veneer pieces from the We R Memory Keepers Honey, I’m Home collection and a few of the coordinating ephemera pieces to embellish around my page. For even more dimension and color, I layered a few stickers from the Posh Collection by Simple Stories and the Honey, I’m Home Collection and even a few gold rub-ons from Jen Hadfield available in the October 2016 Embellishment Kit on top of my cut file.

lovehome3

I really like the look of the large title on this page. Since I usually start my designs with my photos as the main focus on my layouts, it was fun to mix things up a bit and use a different focal point when I was creating this page.

lovehome4

This layout didn’t take too much time to complete thanks to the fabulous October 2016 Hip Kits and all of their lovely coordinating products!

lovehome5

Make sure you check out the process video for these two projects below…

Have a wonderful weekend and I’ll be back next week with more crafty inspiration!

Two Fall-Themed Projects Using the October 2016 Hip Kits | Adrienne Alvis

Happy Friday, crafty friends! Today I have two projects to share with you that I created using the October 2016 Hip Kits! First up, is my Project Life spread for the month of October…

1octoberpl

I used items from the October 2016 Project Life Kit to complete this month’s spread. The HKC exclusive Project Life cards are always the inspiration for my color schemes in my PL album and they always pair so well with my photos.

8octoberpl

Since I use a 9×12 sized album, I often have to cut down the 4×6 cards into 3×4, but I always love how they end up looking after I embellish them! I used the Simple Stories Posh Collection letter stickers to accent the “Hello Oct.” PL card that I sized down to 3×4 and added some stitching and gold glitter enamel dots to dress it up.

4octoberpl

Since I had a lot of fall-themed photos in this month’s spread, I made sure to accent my journaling cards so they coordinated with my overall color scheme. The coral and aqua-hued painted wood veneer embellishments from We R Memory Keepers (available in the October 2016 Main Kit) really added pops of color in just the right spots on my spread.

7octoberpl

Next up, I have a 12×12 layout that I created using one of the cut files from this month and items from Simple Stories and We R Memory Keepers that are available in the October 2016 Embellishment Kit.

fallsparkle8

I had some really great photos of my daughter that I took after we bought pumpkins to decorate around our house for fall so I printed several of them off and layered them on top of the square style cut file available in the October 2016 downloads on the HKC website.

fallsparkle2

The photos fit perfectly around the cut file so I created a loose grid design using smaller embellishments that I clustered around the photos to sort of connect them all together.

fallsparkle3

I chose the navy blue patterned paper by Dear Lizzy from the October 2016 Paper Kit to use for my cut file because I love how it popped against the polka-dotted patterned paper from Simple Stories. It also coordinated wonderfully with my photos.

fallsparkle4

I layered accent stickers, chipboard elements, and ephemera from We R Memory Keepers and Simple Stories around my page for embellishments.

fallsparkle5

I really love how this page turned out and you can check out my process video below for more details about both projects.

fallsparkle1

Thanks so much for joining me today and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Using the October 2016 Main Kit Only | Adrienne Alvis

Hello Hip Kit Club fans! I’m here today sharing my first layout using the gorgeous October 2016 Hip Kits. I know some of you have been requesting projects using the main kit only, so that’s what I used to create my layout for today.

hoco1

My son and his girlfriend attended their first homecoming dance a couple of weeks ago, so I was really excited to scrap some of the photos that I took of them before the dance. I started by layering a couple of large triangles that I cut out of the Pink Paislee patterned paper onto a piece of the Maggie Holmes Gather collection “My Story” patterned paper that I used for my background.

hoco2

I placed my photos down my page vertically and layered several ephemera pieces from the Dear Lizzy Saturday collection around them. I created an embellishment cluster (below) with some of the ephemera pieces and used some dimensional foam adhesive to secure it to my page.

hoco3

I used some of the HKC exclusive Coral Puffy Alphabet stickers that are available in the October 2016 Main Kit for my title and then placed some wood veneer embellishments from the We R Memory Keepers Honey, I’m Home collection around my page to accent the pink alphas.

hoco4

The October 2016 Main Kit is packed full of so many lovely items that you can use for your next layout or project. I really love how my page turned out and how well the colors from the kit coordinate with my photos!

hoco6

Here’s the link for my first ever process video…ever…ha,ha! I’m not super thrilled with the results, but it’s a new challenge and realm for me and I will try to make my next one better. I hope you at least enjoy my attempt at this, lol!

I hope I’ve given you some inspiration on how to work with the Main Kit only and I hope you have a great day!
