Pure magic by Anna Komenda

Hello everyone. It’s my turn to inspire you today ūüôā I got my March kits few days ago and I just couldn’t resist diving into them right away. They are so beautiful and fresh. This is exactly what I need on my desk after a long winter. And have you seen March cut files? They are gorgeous too. Rainbow with clouds designed by Kim Watson is fantastic. I love using many colors on one page and what would be more perfect to do that than a rainbow?

1

I decided to use some soft background but not white because I used white cardstock from Cardstock kit to cut the rainbow. I chose light pink paper from “Chasing dreams” collection called “Royal”.You can find it both in Main kit and in Paper kit.

DSC_8173

I colored the rainbow with watercolors and backed the clouds using blue cardstock from Cardstock kit. I aslo added a layer of vellum to soften up the clouds. Parrot and cute hot air baloons are in the perfect spot. They are both from “Lovely day” ephemera by Dear Lizzy. You can find them in Project Life kit. This ephemera pack is filled with beautiful, whimsical designs.

DSC_8178

March kits are filled with rainbows. You can find them on every item from Pinkfresh Studio collection “Dream on”. I used this cute little rainbow from puffy stickers pack. I just couldn’t resist. I created a title by fussy cutting another beautiful paper from Main kit – “Encourage wonder” by Shimelle. This paper is a great source of titles and inspirations.

DSC_8180

Those shiny hearts are gold acrylic mirror stickers and I love them. This is a product manufactured by Pinkfresh Studio and it gives great texture to the page. You can find them in Embellishment kit along with rubber charms.

I hope You like my page. I also have a process video for You ūüôā

Thank You for stopping by and see You soon on Facebook.

Envelope Pockets & DIY Embellishments

Hello Hip Kits fans! It‚Äôs Zinia here to my last project¬†using the February 2017 Hip Kits. I had so much fun using these kits and I created a bunch of different projects throughout the month but I’m really excited to start playing with the March kits as soon as possible.

Envelope Pockets & DIY Embellishments Using February 2017 Hip Kits @abstractinspiration #ziniaamoiridou #cratepaper #maggieholmes #wrmk #hipkitclub

This layout was pretty hard for me. My first couple of ideas didn’t really work out so it took some time and experimentation to get here. If you are curious about the whole process, you can watch the process video bellow:

I really wanted to use my envelope punch board to create some pockets and fill them with the beautiful Oh my Heart cut apart specialty paper that came in the Paper Ad-on Kit. I measured the cut apart pieces I wanted to use and I created envelops in the closest size. Then I cut off the top flap and turned them into pockets.

Envelope Pockets & DIY Embellishments Using February 2017 Hip Kits @abstractinspiration #ziniaamoiridou #cratepaper #maggieholmes #wrmk #hipkitclub

The embellishing part was much easier. I went for my go-to embellishment from this month’s kit, the butterflies. I also used a few florals from the Chasing Dreams sticker sheet that came in the Embellishment kit.

I also used the Color Kit to create some DIY embellishments. I mixed the AcriTonez with some heavy gel, spread them through the stencil and fussy cut them to create some lovely geometric hearts.

(During the photoshoot, my little assistant did a thorough check to make sure everything was good)

Before I go, I want to show you some more pages from my traveler’s notebook minibook for February.

February 2017 Traveler's Notebook by Zinia Amoiridou @abstractinspiration

In some spreads I tried to keep things very minimalistic. When there was an item I really loved, I didn’t want to stuff it on a busy page. I preferred using it on a simple spread so that it’s on the spotlight.

February 2017 Traveler's Notebook by Zinia Amoiridou @abstractinspiration

I really tried to implement as much stamping as possible. I really enjoy playing around with stamps in my traveler’s notebooks and this one is not exception. I absolutely adore the Oh my Heart stamp set that came in the Project Life kit.

I also used some interactive elements like this file folder to “hide” a goofy photo of my boyfriend and his valentine’s date.

When I’m working in my traveler’s notebook I always try to use the products that I wouldn’t normally use in my scrapbooking. ¬†For example I don’t often use washi tape and tags on my 12×12 pages, so I made sure to include them in my TN and use them up in my lovely notebook spreads.

So these are my projects for today. I really hope you enjoyed them and you got inspired to create something with your February Hip Kits. Make sure to stop by the HKC Facebook page and the HKC Member Forum for even more inspiration.

Until next time, happy scrappingūüôā

Cut Files & Mixed Media | Missy Whidden

Happy Monday, friends!¬† Missy here, and I’m just thrilled to be sharing my first layout using the new 2017 March Hip Kits!¬† Gorgeous doesn’t even begin to cover these goodies.¬† As soon as I saw this beautiful subscriber cut file designed by Kim Watson, I knew I had to use it on a layout.¬† I envisioned all those swirly clouds with some sun rays behind them.¬† I cut the clouds on white cardstock and then backed a lot of them with patterned papers from the Main Kit & Paper Kit and a few of the Project Life cards.¬† I also backed a few with vellum.¬† For my background, I drew some sun rays by tracing a sunburst stencil I have in my stash.¬† I used some of the new Shimmerz¬† Paste-eez from the Color Kit and mixed in some of the white AcriTonez from last month’s Color Kit and painted the rays in with a brush.¬† I embellished with die cuts and stickers.

I just love how this turned out!¬† I added fun foam adhesive under the cut file to raise it up and what a different it made!¬† Look at the shadowing and depth…I just love it.¬† I added that adorable die cut bird from the Dear Lizzy die cuts, and I fussy cut the word “LOVE” from one of the Shimelle patterned papers.

I machine stitched along the edges of all the rays using yellow thread.  This gives the rays a more crisp edge and adds some fun texture to the page.  I added a cute cloud sticker, which is from the Shimelle sticker sheet.

This beautiful floral sticker is also from the Shimelle sticker sheet, and I paired it with some of the Pinkfresh Studio bits…one of the Rubber Charms and one of the Leatherette Stickers.¬† I hand cut a tiny flower from the orange Project Life card to bring some of that color to this side of the layout.¬† I also used that beautiful Oh My Heart pink die cut frame as a layer behind the photo.

Here’s another shot of the cut file and the dimension.

I did add more watercolor behind my photo using more Shimmerz products from previous kits.  I used some blues, aquas and pinks to create some splotches and splatters peeking out from behind the photo.  I created my title using the fussy cut letters and that adorable die cut from Oh My Heart.  That little camera is from the Dear Lizzy die cuts pack.

Here’s my process video if you’d like to watch how I made this mixed media heavy layout.¬† It was surely a lot of fun to make!¬† I hope you get some ideas from it.

Thanks so much for stopping by today.  Enjoy your Monday!

Love Lime: Ode to a Rare Color | Jessica Fabiano

Hello everybody. Have you noticed that lime is barely showing up in scrapbooking papers? We’ve had some shades of it in the past but it’s definitely not a common color. Like purple, it’s probably a difficult color to match – but hey, how many of you are using black and white pictures anyway? Right! Give lime a chance! I’m using mainly Claudia van Rooijen’s gorgeous collection from Pretty Little Studio. Didn’t she do an awesome job? Look at those awesome florals she designed:

hkc3

I used the awesome, colorful February 2017 Hip Kits for this layout. Goodness, those kits must be everything I could’ve ever hoped for. And once I’ve seen that some of Claudia’s designs are going to be featured I went to bed with the brightest grin ever. Isn’t she brave for including lime as one of the main colors? I think she is – and that deserves some appreciation! So I built this layout using most of her yummy flowers.¬† Just look at them!

fullsizerender1

I could stare at her painty flowers all day long. I sprinkled some more stickers and puffy’s from Paige Evans’s Oh My Heart collection by Pink Paislee. The golden hearts are Pink Fresh Studio foam stickers; the butterflies are from Maggie Holmes (Chasing Dreams).

fullsizerender

I mixed a lime color for my background. How I did it? I used a yellow marker and a green marker and scribbled it on an acrylic block – then sprayed water on it and pressed it onto my layout. The color remains vibrant, but you can add in more color by repeating this technique.

fullsizerender3

Unfortunately it wasn’t me who came up with the awesome quote I wrote with the tiny word stickers from the Oh My Heart sticker booklet included in the Project Life Kit. The full quote says:

“Certainly, travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.”
– Mary Ritter Beard
fullsizerender2
Those Thickers! Look at that faded minty, ombr√© look – isn’t that just gorgeous? I also used some washi paper strips from the above mentioned sticker booklet – this brings more attention to the bottom section of the layout.¬† The Thickers are from Pebbles by the way, but check the list of all the products that I used:
List of products that I used for this layout:
  • Floral Die Cuts “With All My Heart” (Claudia van Rooijen) – Pretty Little Studio (Embellishment Kit)
  • Tag Die Cuts “With All My Heart” (Claudia van Rooijen) – Pretty Little Studio (Embellishment Kit)
  • Mint Thickers “Sunshiny Days” – Pebbles (Embellishment Kit)
  • Accent Stickers “Chasing Dreams” (Maggie Holmes) – Crate Paper (Embellishment Kit)
  • Foam Glitter Shape Stickers “The Mix No 1” – Pink Fresh Studio (Embellishment Kit)

  • Tiny Alphas/Sticker Booklet “Oh My Heart” (Paige Evans) – Pink Paislee (Project Life Kit)

I hope you feel inspired to use more lime green in your projects as well,

Happy, so happy | Kim Watson

As a subscriber you get the privilege of enjoying some fantastic exclusive cut files. This is one of them…The Fringed Butterfly. All I can say is WOW! The February 2017 kits are so, so pretty…the butterflies & the amazing colors, are what make this craft so much fun!

Happy by Kim Watson

kimwatsonhappyhkc01(For a detailed step by step on how I put this cut file together, be sure to watch my process video; see below.)

Starting with the cut file, but keeping in mind it would dominate a big portion of the layout, I started arranging things around the page. Tilting the butterfly to the left, left space plenty of space in opposite corners, which was how I solved where to place my photograph. kimwatsonhappyhkc02

I took the piece of ‘Oasis’ paper from Crate Paper & fussy cut a selection of roses suitable to fill the corners. The clusters, decorated with chipboard stickers¬†& wood accents add to the bright, exotic feel of the page. I love how keeping them snug against the corners grounds the design without¬†it looking too busy.

kimwatsonhappyhkc03

Fussy cut butterflies from Chasing Dreams were exactly what I needed to decorate the wings of big cut file butterfly. Using the x2 different sizes add dimension & balance.

I hope you have found this inspirational?  I had so fun creating it & I know you will too! Thank you so much for stopping by. Remember to grab our complimentary cut files to help you make the most of your kits.

Ripped Paper Layers | Zinia Amoiridou

Hello Hip Kits fans! It’s Zinia here to share with you my first projects using the February 2017 Hip Kits.

hkc-zinia-feb02

For my first layout, I decided to go for a pastel color palette. I picked some of the pink and mint papers from the Main kit and ripped some rectangular pieces.

I wanted the ripped look to be only on the long side of each piece so I made sure to do clean cuts on the sides.

hkc-zinia-feb06

I arranged the papers on my background vertically and I adhered them at the middle of the page. Then it we get to the fun part of embellishing!

I started with some ephemera and chipboard stickers from the Maggie Holmes “Chasing Dreams” collection. To compliment those pieces, I brought in some of the copper foiled clear stickers of the “Oh My Heart” collection that were included in the February Project Life kit.

hkc-zinia-feb04

I also used some of the adorable “Chasing Dreams” phrase stickers.

For a finishing touch, I added some gold touches around the page. I used the Pinkfresh Studio gold stickers that came in the Embellishment kit and one of the Maggie Holmes puffy gold hearts.

hkc-zinia-feb01

In addition to this layout, I’d like to share some pages from my February notebook. Starting in 2017 I decided to switch from pocket style page to the traveler’s notebook system for my day to day documenting. Sometimes it looks more like a minibook, sometimes it reminds a little bit of a planner but in the end of the day, it’s a lovely place to keep all the little memories that make each month special.

hkc-zinia-febtn01

I used one of my most favorite papers of the February Main kit as my cover along with the month and a couple of little embellishments.

hkc-zinia-febtn02

I try to keep things light a minimal cause I don’t want to add¬†too much bulk in this notebook. The products from the Project Life kit come really handy cause they are not too dimensional.

hkc-zinia-febtn03

I print all my photos at 3×3″ to simplify the process. If I end up with extra photos after the notebook is finished, I’ll just use them in my 12×12 layouts.

hkc-zinia-febtn04

hkc-zinia-febtn05

So these are my projects for today. I really hope you enjoyed them and you got inspired to create something with your February Hip Kits. Make sure to stop by the HKC Facebook page and the HKC Member Forum for even more inspiration.

Until next time, happy scrappingūüôā

Let’s Get Painty: Layout Influenced by Art | Jessica Fabiano

Hello friends. Did you know that I love art? I am sure that some of you feel the same. During my studies at university I focused on abstract paintings and I sometimes let my love for art influence the way I scrap. Have you heard of informalism (Art Informel) or Abstract Expressionism? Perhaps you’d like artists like Bernhard Schulze, Michel Keck, or Britt Bass Turner to inspire you to pull out your paints and get started, too – because that’s what they do with me. Here’s the layout I created for today:

fullsizerender92

The February 2017 Hip Kits are stuffed with gorgeous colors, patterns and a BUNCH of embellishment. I love paper  Рbut embellishment is what makes me roll. As you can see, I started off creating a bold painty background. The color add on of this month comes with the Shimmerz Paints Acritonez acrylic colors (magenta, white, blue). I mixed the white and magenta to achieve the pale pink look on the left side but added some red color to the magenta for the darker shades on the right side. This creates depth and interest. I tried not to let the colors blend as they were still wet on my surface Рthis is just a preference; blending makes it softer and more natural, not blending makes it bolder. I also prefer boldness in abstract art. It looks very easy but it requires a lot of practicing РI find that I often blend the colors more than I want to. I still have lots of room for improvement after so many years!

fullsizerender94

Once my color was dry, I added white sandy texture paste using the gorgeous color add on stencil. Did you check the February downloads? Zinia’s gorgeous heart cut file was so much fun to use and matched the stencil perfectly. I cut it using a pale pink sheet of paper from the cardstock add on. I also added some pink mist on top of the heart to give it more depth. To make it a bit more interesting I backed random sections of the heart with Maggie Holmes’s Chasing Dreams paper. Then I added in the fun embellishments mainly from the Oh My Heart Puffy Stickers by Pink Paislee (Paige Evans) and also some of the Shimelle wood buttons. So so cute!

fullsizerender95

I love those dynamical cyrcles that we can often find in abstract paintings – I used several shades of pink for this section of the layout. I also added a golden puffy fabric heart and a little phrase sticker.

fullsizerender97

I love how the mint green pops on top of the pale pink. Those colors make me happy!

List of products I used for this layout:

  • Paper “Keepsake” – Crate Paper/Maggie Holmes (Chasing Dreams) (Main Kit).
  • Wood Buttons – Shimelle (Little by Little)¬† (Main Kit).
  • Chipboard Sticker – Crate Paper/Maggie Holmes (Chasing Dreams) (Main Kit).
  • Golden fabric puffy hearts – Maggie Holmes (Chasing Dreams)¬† (Main Kit).
  • Puffy Stickers – Pink Paislee/Paige Evans (Oh My Heart) (Project Life Kit).
  • Sticker Book Stickers – Pink Paislee/Paige Evans (Oh My Heart) (Project Life Kit).
  • Phrase Sticker – Crate Paper/Maggie Holmes (Chasing Dreams) (Project Life Kit).
  • Acrylic Paints “Pinkadelic” – Acritonzes (Shimmerz Paints) (Color Kit).
  • Acrylic Paints “3 Sheets To The Wind” – Acritonez (Shimmerz Paints) (Color Kit).
  • 6×6 Stencil “Geometric Heart” – Echo Park (Color Kit).
  • Cardstock “Blush” – American Crafts (Cardstock Kit).
  • Cut File “Geometric Heart” by Zinia Amoiridou.
  • Color Shine Mist “Sweet Mint” – Heidi Swapp (Color Kit December 2016).
  • Gelatos (Bubble Gum, Passionfruit, Limoncello).
  • White texture Paste

I hope you’ve had some fun joining me today,

A6 Traveler’s Notebook Junk Journals | Tiffany Medina

img_4971dt

Hey friends! Tiffany here with another traveler’s notebook project using the February Hip Kits! For this one though, I decided to make these two “junk” journals for my A6 traveler’s notebook to use as personal journals and/or art journals. I just wanted a cute journal to document my everyday that wouldn’t involve too much work in order to document. I figure having a sound base already done would be great, so I went with this “junk” journal style. The term “junk” here is just indicative of the style I’m trying to convey. Usually junk journals are created from scraps–bits and pieces left over from other projects–all put together into a usable journal. But here, I used my kits, but tried to mimic that “junk” feel.

I used a mixture of the pattern papers from the Main kit, a few plain white copy paper and ruled paper that I tea dyed subtly to make them look vintage, and a sheet of vellum from one of the past Hip Kits. I limited myself to just a few pattern papers so that I don’t overload my journals with too much pattern and color. A few of the pattern papers I altered to suit my liking. I tea dyed a few of them and distressed another with gesso so that the navy color of the paper wasn’t too harsh. I added gold paint splatters to the vellum as well, just to give it a little sparkle. I tried to keep the color palette light and bright, with a touch of vintage. The Crate Paper and Maggie Holmes papers that I used already had a touch of vintage, which helped keep the color theme I wanted throughout.

After I prepped all of my papers and let them dry, I cut them down to size. A6 dimensions is about 4×6: 4 inchs in width and 6 inches in height. So I had to cut my 12×12 papers down to 8×12, then cut that in half to 8×6, so when folded the pages will be 4×6. So I ended up with two of each of my papers. For the copy and ruled paper, I simply cut them in half because even though they were a bit smaller than 8×6, they fit fine. I also like the different sized pages because they give the journals a bit more texture. Once everything was cut and folded, I assembled my journals. I was able to create two different journals with all of the papers I used, which was a very nice surprise.¬†I did a simple stitch with waxed thread to bind my journals and once they were done, I began my embellishing.

I also limited myself to a few embellishments. I picked out my favorite pieces from the Maggie Holmes Chasing Dreams ephemera pack that’s in¬†the Main kit to use and put everything else away. I also used the Chasing Dreams phrase and label stickers from the Project Life kit and the Chasing Dreams 6×12 sticker sheet from the Embellishment kit. I used only one of the fringed butterflies from the Embellishment kit and a few of the washi tape strips from the Pink Paislee Paige Evans Oh My Heart sticker book in the Project Life kit. With the left over paper and branding strips, I made a bunch of pockets, tags and banners that I used to embellish my pages. I also used a few things from my stash, most notably, paper doilies and this beautiful lace trim I had.

I especially love the various tags I made from the leftover scrap pieces of pattern paper I had. Tags are just the perfect embellishment for these little journals. They’re cute¬†decor pieces as well as great pieces to¬†journal on and tuck into a pocket to make the journal a bit interactive. I was inspired by all the lovely already made tags included in the Maggie Holmes Ephemera pack and the Pretty Little Studio tags from the Embellishment kit. I matched the papers with the white doilies and lace trim to give them a soft delicate look. I also embellished them lightly with the Chasing Dreams stickers and smaller die cuts. I even made a little banner-tag from a piece of fabric trim and embellished it with a pink heart die cut. I tucked them into the pockets I made in my journals or paper clipped them to my pages.¬†I just love how these turned out!

img_4964

These journals are just so fun to make and use. You can use them to document your everyday or as travel journals. They make the cutest little gifts for someone as well. You can make them in any size you like, I just did A6 for myself to put into my traveler’s notebook. For a more in depth look into how I made these, check out the process video below.

And if you want a look into how these two journals turned out, check out the flip through video below!
