Hello Paris by Tarrah McLean

Happy Sunday Hip Kit fans!

It’s Tarrah McLean back with you and today I have a new layout to share using the amazing February 2017 Main and Add-On kits!

I have been blessed once with a trip to Paris a couple of years ago and I am super duper lucky to be going again in 7 weeks time! As soon as I saw that gorgeous Amour paper by Dear Lizzy I just knew that  I had to pull out a Paris photo!

I started out by cutting the geometric heart cut file from one of the pink patterned papers included in the February 2017 Main kit and backed it with that gorgeous Amour paper and then machine stitched around the outside. I used some foam tape to pop it up from the mint coloured background paper.

While creating this layout I was pulling out bits and pieces to embellish it with…I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the date on the globe sticker with the number 24 and then May and Wed really small…….THIS IS THE EXACT DAY WE ARE GOING TO PARIS!! We are getting the Eurostar across from England on this date! Can you believe that?! That sticker was made just for me and this layout!!

I love all the embellishments that refer to travel included in the February 2017 Hip Kits…they are just perfect for this layout! I also added one of those gorgeous fringed butterflies and a gold puffy heart by Maggie Holmes from the Chasing Dreams collection.

I absolutely love how this layout turned out and I hope I have inspired you to create some projects using some of your Hip Kits!?

Happy creating…see you next week!

Together | Tarrah McLean

Hi everyone!

It’s Tarrah McLean back with you and today I am excited to share my first layout that I have created using the February 2017 Main and Add-On kits!together-1

As soon as I saw the fringe butterfly cut file designed by Kim Watson, I knew I wanted to use this as my main feature on this layout so I cut it out on one of the pretty Crate Paper Oasis papers!  You can get this cut file for free from the HKC website, all you have to do is create a login and away you go!

I added some machine stitching to the tops of the fringed parts and then placed foam dots underneath the main butterfly to help pop it off the page! I added lots of the different embellishments from the Maggie Holmes Chasing Dreams collection including my title ‘Together’ from the chipboard sticker sheet.together-1-detail-2

I used one of the exclusive Project Life cards as a layering piece underneath my photo to help add colour and texture too! I couldn’t resist adding one of the mini fringed butterflies to the centre of the big one!together-1-detail-3

Those gold puffy hearts are to die for and had to make an appearance on this layout! Watch out for more projects from me with those babies added!

Thank you so much for stopping by the Hip Kit Club blog today!

Happy creating!

Mixed media Dream Catcher | Kim Watson

Engaged by Kim Watson

Hi friends…Kim here, with a new page using the January 2017 kits & one of the amazing free subscriber cut files designed by Jessica Fabiano, to commemorate my brother’s exciting engagement on 3rd February 2017. We are so looking forward to their up and coming wedding & I wanted to create a page that was super special. The mixture of cut files, and mixed media helped me achieve the perfect look.

I had fun with the base page by creating a lovely collage of gesso, texture paste, Shimmerz, watercolor & gold mist. Then by cutting the dream catcher file in white cardstock, as well as patterned paper, I was able to create a 3D drop shadow effect. By attaching only the frame, I left the feathers loose further adding fantastic dimension.

Taking x3 feather ephemera from the Pink Paislee pack in the main kit, I slipped them in between the x2 cut file layers adding some pops of color. The cool thick cork adds, interest & contrast scattered around the page, balancing out the soft colors.

Layered frames & a notelet create an interesting cluster, decorated with puffy stickers & butterflies are the perfect detail for the bottom left side of the page.

Wanting a bright title, I got a little messy with the canvas alphas found in the January 2017 January kit. I covered my process in my technique video…but basically it is layers of gesso, x2 shades of pink paint & Heidi Swapp gold mist. The effect is fantastic!!

I really hope you liked my page & idea. I hope you are inspired to create a similar design with your January kits. Remember if you are looking for a great crafty community, be sure to join the HKC Facebook page and the HKC Member Forum.

Happy crafting friends 🙂

Butterfly Dreamin’ | Raquel Bowman

Hey everyone, Raquel Bowman here today with a new layout using the beautiful January kits and exclusive cut files. This week my baby girl had her first day of Kinder. This is quite a milestone event here in Aus so I was itching to get this photo documented. I was planning on adding a lot of journaling to the layout documenting all the ‘mummy feels’ however, once I started playing with the products I sort of ran out of room! Luckily, being a Mummarazzi I took plenty of photos so I will create another layout to contain the thoughts and feelings behind this special day.

To create this layout I made a feature of the gorgeous January exclusive butterfly cut file. I just loved this cut file as soon as I saw it and thought it was the perfect one for this story. I actually cut this file twice – once on vellum and once on white card stock from the card stock add on. I then traced the design onto the Pink Paislee patterned paper and hand cut around it. I could have cut the outline of the file on my silhouette but I added it as an afterthought.

To add a beautiful touch of dimension I stitched them together at the centre of the butterflies and folded the areas of the wings inwards. I love the softness this brings and the pops of pink and coral coming through the wings of the butterflies.

For the title of this page I used the exclusive veneer piece from the Main Kit and backed the ‘dreams’ part of it with the same Pink Paislee Moonstruck paper that I used behind the butterfly cut file.

To embellish the page I used a combination of products. I just love the Hazelwood collection by American Crafts that is featured in these kits. I included some of the stickers and also the butterfly rub ons. I placed the rub ons onto plain card stock and then fussy cut them out to turn them into die cuts.

There was an exclusive paper that had the most beautiful florals. I fussy cut those out and placed them either side of the photo. Of course I had to add some more butterflies and hearts to the embellishment clusters too.

I added two patterned papers behind the photo and a doily from my stash. The papers help tie in that blue and pink colour palette. I also added strips down the side of the whole layout, just to help balance the page a little. It is very busy compared to my usual style. followyourdreams-4

To finish the page I added a touch of Heidi Swapp Colour Shine. I hope this page has inspired you to get creating with your January kits and the cut files. followyourdreams-6

Hello, 2017! | Adrienne Alvis

Hey everyone! I’m sharing a Project Life spread and my first layout using the January 2017 Hip Kits with you today…

First up, I created a title page for my January 2017 Project Life album using the January 2017 Project Life Kit!

I’m doing a 9×12 album size again this year and will continue to document my spreads monthly. This format worked very well for me last year and was a huge timesaver! Plus, this size also helps me keep my albums down to just one a year, taking up less (limited!) shelf space in my craft room. As you can see below, I chose several of the HKC exclusive Project Life cards from the PL kit and layered some lovely embellishments from Pink Paislee and from the American Crafts One Canoe Two collection on top of them.

I chose to use a few recent family photos for my title page and layered two of the Heidi Swapp Instax Golden chipboard frames that are available in the January 2017 Main Kit on top of the smaller photos. The rose gold effect looks stunning paired with the blues and pinks that I used for my color scheme!

Next up, I have a layout that I created using one of this month’s cut files (available here and a subscriber perk!) as the base for my design.

I cut out the cut file using my Silhouette from a piece of the Pink Paislee Moonstruck patterned paper #11 that’s available in the January 2017 Paper Kit and layered it on top of another piece of patterned paper from the American Crafts One Canoe Two collection.

I placed my photos on top of the cut file that I elevated using some foam dimensional adhesive and then placed several of the flower ephemera pieces from the Moonstruck collection by Pink Paislee around the photos of my daughter and my nieces that was taken on Christmas Day.

For an even bolder effect and to add some extra dimension, I fussy-cut flowers from the January 2017 Leaf and Flower Printable sheet and layered them around the existing flower pieces. I scattered a few of the HKC exclusive Frolic vellum heart stickers around the cut file for an added pop of black and white.

I just love how this layout turned out and how the colors in the photos pop against the mint, pink, and black and white accents! Be sure and check out my process video for this layout below!

Thanks so much for joining me and I hope you have a great weekend!

All Smiles | Raquel Bowman

Hey everyone, its Raquel here today sharing my latest layout with you using my December kits. For this layout today I decided to create a page for my Son documenting a special little everyday moment that I wanted to record.

My son is two and it was becoming a struggle to get him to brush his teeth daily. He simply didn’t like doing it, whether I did it or encouraged him to brush, it wasn’t an easy task. The moment I am documenting is photos taken on the day that I had a bit of a ‘lightbulb’ moment and decided to make brushing fun by buying him a battery operated Spiderman toothbrush. As you can see from the photo – we didn’t have any trouble getting him to brush his teeth again. If the truth be told, I have had to tell him to stop brushing them a few times as her wanted to brush them multiple times in a day, ha. Winning!

Here is the layout I created: All Smiles

I thought the title of ‘all smiles’ from the Amy Tan Thickers pack was perfect for this page. It is clear in his cheeky grin that it is a smiley page, but also because the documenting is all about his pearly whites. To help the white foam pop off the page, I backed it on one of the Take Me Away Pink Paislee patterned papers. I also adhered it to the page with a foam tape. I love the shadow the title provides. I knew I wanted to add a fair bit of journaling and tell my story, so I thought the mirrored swirl would act as a nice transition into the journaling.

Because the page was documenting multiple photos I added small clusters to either side of that group of photos. In this grouping I added one of the November cut files by Irit, cut from one of the kits exclusive papers. And also I added an asterix thicker, exclusive ephemera, a Pink Paislee clip and small embellishments that provide that finishing touch, like the mirrored circles and Heidi puffy stickers.

Here you can see the cluster to the left of the photo. The details tab is just there for an added embellishment, but yep, all the details are in the journaling.

I am a little addicted to adding these gorgeous Crate Paper tassels to every page I create. This one coordinated with my colour palette nicely and I was able to wrap and tie it to the star cut file.

I used my typewriter for my journaling and cut it out in strip form. I wrote in third person -a bit like a story for something different. To finish the journaling and help balance the page and reinforce the design idea of visual triangles, I added smaller embellishments to the bottom right of the journaling. all-smiles-45

I wanted the photo of my son and his big cheesy grin to stand out more than the other two photos so I matted it onto the yellow from one of the Pink Paislee papers and adhered it with foam tape to the page. The whole mat of photos on the woodgrain paper is also adhered with foam adhesive. it really helps those photos pop. all-smiles-7

I hope you have enjoyed this layout today and found it inspiring. It was fun to challenge myself to create a multi photo layout about my son from what predominately could be said to be a more girly themed kit.

Using Cut Files as a Stencil | Jessica Fabiano

Hey everyone. I hope you’re doing well. Do you love your December Kits? Because I sure do! They come with a variety of color options; I for my part have decided to stick to a different color scheme this time. Different indeed. I am not sure how often I’ll embrace an almost fluorescent lime and bright blue-ish purple, but the technique is fun. Use the left-over cut file as a stencil for an interesting design!

Sweet and talented Bea Valint created the cut file for the month of december, it’s downright gorgeous and I knew I had to use it. I cut the florals from grey cardstock that comes in the cardstock kit – I can just reccomend grabbing the cardstock add on of the month. Why? Because they are the absolute perfect embodiment of the monthly color scheme. You can do great things with just cardstock. Punch, cut, tear, rip. Be all kinds of cruel. 😀

To be honest: Gelatos have only recently become my new addiction. I didn’t like those colors for some time, they’ve been sitting in my mason jar forever because I didn’t give them enough of a chance. But I’m telling you this: They deserve a chance! Be kind to your Gelatos and they’ll be kind to you, too!

I put the negative of the cut file onto my white cardstock and just smeared the Gelatos into the different sections. You can mix colors and just have fun. I’ve also changed the color of the frame on top of my picture with a lime colored Gelato: It used to be a sunny yellow. Remember: You can change most of your solid embellishments (Thickers, Wood Veneers, Enamel Dots, Ephemera) by changing the colors with either Gelatos, Alcohol markers and whatnot. Try it, you won’t regret it. I promise.

Here’s a little something for the eye. Hope you’ve had some fun joining me today. See you soon!

xoxo, Jessy

New Year, New Projects! | Adrienne Alvis

Happy Friday, everyone! I hope the beginning of 2017 is treating you well and that you had a wonderful holiday! I’m here with two projects that I created using the December 2016 Hip Kits beginning with a fun layout documenting the ringing in of the New Year…

I used some of the lovely HKC Exclusive patterned paper from the December 2016 Paper Kit for my background and then layered several long, narrower strips of paper from the Amber Star collection vertically down the left side of my page. I also used a few of the lovely December Cut Files that are available for free for HKC subscribers and placed them around the photo of my family on New Year’s Eve.

I re-sized the cut files so I could layer a few of them together and I added one of the HKC Exclusive flair buttons from the December 2016 Embellishment Kit in the middle. I also adhered a few of the Pink Paislee Birthday Bash sequins around it for some color pop.

My favorite part about this layout is the sequin filled “2017” embellishment! To create this, I simply took a small piece of vellum that fit underneath of the “2017” cut file and used my tape gun to cover it in adhesive. Then I scattered some of the confetti sequins from Pink Paislee on my craft table and flipped the adhesive covered piece of vellum over and smashed it on top of the sequin pile. I lifted it up and a ton of sequins covered the adhesive so I could layer the “2017” cut file on top of it using some foam adhesive to give it some dimension.

To complete my page, I placed some of the Crate Paper Heart Day Thickers on top of the sequin embellishment to create my title. I used a little bit of the Shimmerz Paints Shimmeringz spray ink, available in the December 2016 Color Kit, in Concrete for my ink splatters and placed a few more of the confetti sequins around my layout.

The next project that I have to share with you today is my Project Life spread for December 2016…

Even though I do a December Documented album each year, I still like to include a spread in my Project Life album for December. I try to focus on the “everyday” photos that I didn’t use for my DD and I always end up with more than enough to document.

For this PL spread I used items and the HKC Exclusive journaling cards from the December 2016 Project Life Kit. I love the soft colors in this month’s PL kit and the purple and aqua are so lovely paired with the gold and yellow accents!

I cut apart the 5×7 Phrase Cut-Apart sheet from the kit and layered some of the sentiments directly on top of my photos. I also used several of the Pink Paislee Take Me Away collection ephemera pieces to embellish the journaling cards. I also added several pops of gold using the My Mind’s Eye Gold Mirrored Acrylic stickers from the embellishment kit to complete my design.

Thanks so much for joining me today and I hope I’ve given you some inspiration on how to use your December 2016 Hip Kits! Have a wonderful weekend!

Special Moments | By Raquel Bowman

Hey everyone, it’s Raquel here on the blog today sharing my newest layout featuring the bright and colourful December Kits. For my layout today I have focused on creating a multi-photo layout which features the gorgeous exclusive floral cut file design by Bea Valint for HKC.

Here is the layout I created:special-moments-layout

The photo I am documenting is a series of photos taken when I took my little girl with me to our local nail salon. The ladies there were so lovely and offered to paint her nails too and she was so excited. She loves when I paint her nails at home, but getting them done out made it just that little more special. A Mummy-Daughter pamper outing together, how fun. I documented the story using my fave way – strip journaling typed on my typewriter. For the layout title I added the Amy Tangerine foam thickers sentiment moments, onto a scrap of yellow patterned paper from the Pink Paislee Take me Away collection. It adds that perfect pop of colour to the page and helps the white thickers stand out. The ‘special’ was added with the super cute silver glitter foam thickers.

I created a little cluster to the right of the photos that features some of the amazing Pink Paislee Take me Away ephemera, some of the Birthday Bash sequins and even the asterix from the Amy Tan thickers. To add some detail to this cluster I added some foam adhesive under certain pieces.

I added a small scattering of embellishments to the top left of the layout too, to help balance it. The little heart is punched from the American Crafts glitter tape using a tiny American Crafts heart punch. Whats great about the glitter tape is that it is adhesive backed, so once I punch the shape out I simply peel off the backing sheet and stick it to my page.

In this multi photo layout there was one photo which I wanted to stand out more than the rest. To help achieve this I printed it slightly larger than the other two and also backed it on the yellow – a brighter colour, to help it pop off the page more. I also adhered the photos on a foam adhesive which gives the photos that extra bit of dimension.  special-moments-4

I hope this post has inspired you today and given you an idea for a multi photo layout using cut files. special-moments-desk

Cut File Number Strips | Zinia Amoiridou

Hello scrappy friends! It’s Zinia here with a fun layout using the November 2016 hip kits.

So I had this idea for a while now and with the end of 2016 I found the perfect opportunity to use it. I designed some 3×4 number cut files for December, which you can find with all the other free cut files on the Hip Kits shop, so I decided to use them and cut 12″ long strips with numbers on the edge to use as my title “2016”.

The main thing you need to keep in mind is that each number will be on top of a pattern so you want to be careful with the patterns you chose. Preferably go for subtle designs and make sure each paper has a contrasting color to the paper next to it. This will help your numbers pop.

Once I had that base set, everything else was a matter of embellishing. I chose two black and white photos to go at the sides of my page and then I finished my title using the gorgeous silver glitter thickers from the November 2016 Embellishment kit and some pieces from the Hip Kit club exclusive die cut pieces and puffy stickers.

To help my photos pop I used some ephemera pieces from the Crate Paper “Snow and Cocoa” collection and also some of the exclusive number die cuts that came in the 2016 December Documented kit.

I also used a few of the exclusive vellum stars and washi strips from the Embellishment kit.

I really hope you enjoyed this layout using the November 2016 kits. Make sure to stop by the HKC Facebook page and the HKC Member Forum for even more inspiration.

Until next time, happy scrapping🙂
