Let’s Stay Home Daddy with Tarrah McLean

Happy Easter Hip Kit friends!

It’s Tarrah McLean joining you this Easter Sunday….sadly I don’t have an Easter themed project to share today but I have a cute layout to share instead! I challenged myself to only use the March 2017 Main kit to create this layout!

So I began by choosing some of the pretty papers in the March 2017 main kit, the houses paper by Dear Lizzy is so hard to resist!  I cut a circle in the geometric paper using my Silhouette Cameo and then backed the house paper behind the circle.

My title consists of the Charm Thickers by Crate Paper found in the March 2017 Main kit…I used lots of the Oh My Heart ephemera by Pink Paislee/Paige Evans to layer and embellish around my photo…the exclusive enamel dots enhance the flower ephemera beautifully!

My niece is soooo photogenic! I am so glad I have her cuteness to scrapbook now! This photo of her with her Dad was taken when she was visiting me…..I bought her this cute outfit she is wearing and I wanted to get some cute shots of her!

Thank you so much for stopping by the Hip Kit Club blog today! I hope I have inspired you to pull out your March 2017 Main kit and create something pretty!

I hope you and your family enjoy a safe and Happy Easter!

Tarrah x

Hi! Irit here with a brand new layout I created using only the March 2017 Main kit! The Charm Thickers are so beautiful, I used them as a main element in my design. Having a ledger paper as my background is perfect for long titles, as they can easily be lined up. Here’s my finished project-

I created my own letters from all the beautiful patterned papers in the kit, and added some stitching for detail and texture.

Embellishing was really easy, I cut one of the pretty floral pieces from the ephemera pack in the main kit in two and used it on both sides of my photo strip.

Here’s the video tutorial I created that shows exactly how all this came together-

Thanks for visiting and don’t forget to check out the HKC website for these gorgeous kits and more!

Selfie No.35 | Jana McCarthy

Hi and Hello, Jana here with a new Layout for you! This is my last one with the December Kits and i can´t wait to start with the new ones! yay!
This Layout is about my son, 15 yrs old, with a big passion for Selfies! oh my! Early in the morning after he styled his hair, during breakfast, after…. kwim?!
We needed to see a doctor at the beginning of the new year, he had a bad ear infection and was fighting a bad cold, but guess what?! It´s always time for selfie….

I used the design from the pattern paper to create a dimensional pattern for my background here. I added some Texturepaste and a Echo Park Paper Stencil, some Shimmerzpaint and i totally love how it turned out.

I tried to add the same colored Elements to the Papers and i found a few that matches perfectly! Can you see the little Acrylic Stars?! These are the perfect final touch! They are included in the Project Life Kit – like the Silver Alpha and the cute Paperclips!

I love the wonky stitches in the triangles it gives a nice texture! Those cute Enamel Dots are one of my favorite things to add, sometimes it´s  just a dot that complete a Project! Right?!

I really had fun creating this Layout and i am so ready to start working with the January Kits!!

Here is my Process Video for you to watch

Thanks for stopping by today, i wish you all a great Day!

using 6 stripes of paper.. Justyna Skowron

Hi! It’s Justyna here. I hope you’re all having a good day.

I’m rather a clean&simple type of a scrapper, so it is no surprise that today’s layout is very simple. I used only… 6 stripes of paper 😀 I wanted to focus merely on the photo. I really love it in its simplicity. Apart from the two papers from the kits, I used some sandwich wrapper as well 😀

And this time I didn’t use any pink! December Kits are very pink so I wanted to change the subject for a little bit 🙂

And those tassels from the main kit..! At first I had no idea how to use them, but on our Facebook HKC Member Forum group the girls gave soo many wonderful ideas on how to use them that it was super easy!

Then, some wood veneers and arrows from the PL kit and Embellishment Kit.

I was a bit terrified when I finished with splashing the yellow ink and my favorite blue ecoline (no. 580). It didn’t turn out the way I wanted, but I added some enamel dots and acrylic stars. At first, I wanted to cover the splashes with the embellishments, but then I realised it’s not that bad.

What do you think? I would really appreciate your feedback! And maybe some ideas on how to cover the unwanted splashes? 😉

Best Moments | Jana McCarthy

Hi and Hello everyone, Jana here with a new Layout for you. I worked with the awesome December 2016 Kits and i let me tell you, these Kits are so full of great Products! I am having so much fun working with them!
But, let´s talk about my Project… it´s about my Hubby and my youngest Son, having a blast being silly! I´ve made a lot of Photos, but most of them are totally blurry.

This Layout is about having the best moments together! Life is not the easiest and so we should all enjoy the little things when ever it´s possible. If that makes sense to you 😉

I added a lot of layers behind my Photos and ruffled up the edges to get more dimension and texture. The Background is a mix of white acrylic paint and the colors from Color Kit.

The golden Acrylic Sticker, the Enamel Dots and the Glitter Tape is from the Embellishment Kit.
I loved to mix all the things together!

The little wooden Arrow att. to my little Journaling Tag is included in the Project Life Kit and gives a cute little Detail, right?!

Here is my process Video for you to watch!

Thanks for stopping by today!

mixed patterns – Justyna Skowron

Hello all! How are you all feeling after Christmas? I rested a bit and I am full of energy! The new December 2016 Kits are full of energy too, so I think we make a great pair 😀 I totally love them and the mix of yellow and pink – it’s my favorite combination I think! So, here’s the layout I prepared with December 2016 Embellishment Kit and December 2016 Main KitDecember 2016 Main Kit.

Under the photo you’ll see some mixed patterns which are taken from the patchwork paper from Pink Paislee. The squares perfectly match each other. I decided to use it and combine the mix of the patterns with the mix of the flowers in the bouquet from the photo 🙂

December Kits are full of little sequins, dots and enamels! They are soo adorable! I decided to splash some yellow ink as well.

I really hope you like it! Take care and have a wonderful week!

Using Large Photos and a Project Life Spread! | Adrienne Alvis

Hello Hip Kit Club fans! Grab a cup of coffee or some tea and get comfy because I’m here with not one, but TWO projects to share with you today that I created using the gorgeous September 2016 Hip Kits! First up, I have a layout that I created using a super-sized photo…

I rarely ever scrap a photo larger than 3×4, but since my challenge was to “supersize it”, I decided to go big or go home with a 5×7 photo of our campsite that I took this past summer. Since my photo was scenic, I decided to position it near the bottom of the layout and layer my title and lots of embellishments around it to help draw the eye down my page.

I used a combination of the Crate Paper Maggie Holmes Gather collection Thickers (available in the September 2016 Embellishment Kit) with one of the chipboard stickers from the same collection that are available in the September 2016 Main Kit for my title. I placed part of it on and above my large photo so it would look more cohesive with all of the other layers on my page.

I added lots of dimension and texture to my page by layering many of the Gather ephemera pieces from Crate Paper, along with some of the Simple Stories Posh Bits & Pieces that are available in the September 2016 Project Life Kit, along the side edges of my photo and up towards the top of my layout. I also added various pieces of patterned paper from the September 2016 Paper Kit so I could add more color and patterns to my page. I also placed several of the Pinkfresh Studio Indigo Hills Wood Veneer Paper Clips in the layers of ephemera as well for even more added texture and color.

I really love how this page turned out and how well the larger photo looks with the big title and pretty embellishments from the September Kits!

Next up, I have my Project Life spread for September 2016 to share with you…

I used many items from the September 2016 Project Life Kit to complete this month’s spread such as the HKC exclusive PL cards, the Dear Lizzy Saturday Wood Veneer Words, and the Simple Stories Posh Enamel Dots.

I also used some of the Simple Stories Posh Bits & Pieces from the PL Kit to accent several of the exclusive PL cards. I just love how well the colors from the PL cards coordinate with the other items and embellishments in the kit!

I now use a 9×12 album for my Project Life spreads and I document them by the month instead of weekly, so I like to keep everything as cohesive and flowing as possible. The Hip Kit Club PL kits are always so helpful in doing this because everything coordinates so well.

I added several of the Maggie Holmes Gather Gold Phrase Stickers (available in the September 2016 Embellishment Kit) on top of my photos to bring out the golden color in my color scheme and to accent my journaling which I typed directly onto my photos.

Well, I hope I’ve given you LOTS of inspiration on how to use your September 2016 Hip Kits today! Be sure and check out the HKC Facebook page and member forum for even more inspiration using the kits!

Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you have a fabulous day!

Let’s Plan Your Day!

Hi, it’s Cara and I want to talk a bit about planning, but it may not be what you are expecting. 😉

I think that a lot of people pride themselves in being busy. Being able to list off all the things we need to do, or a long list of things that we were able to cross off on any given day is like earning some kind of busy badge or medal of honour.

But, I want to you to think about adding some white space to your day, today. Not only in the design of your page, but actually in your schedule. If you are anything like me, you are forever trying to fit in just one more task or one more errand before an appointment or pick up time for your kids. I usually end up late, or stressed that I’m going to be late, and both of those make me cranky! What a way to greet my children right? 😛

When I take the time to add in white space, a mid morning cuppa, leaving the house with lots of time to walk to the bus, or get the errands done, I’m a much calmer person.

We tend to overestimate what we can get done in a day. So I am challenging to try and not jam pack your day with a million tasks and obligations. Give yourself some breathing room. Work it into your design. Leave literal white space on your planner page, which can, not only be white spots that are left blank, but also stickers or die cuts or anything else on your page that makes you smile.

On my page for today, I not only left space around each of my plans, I also added lots of goodies from my HKC August kits. Especially die cuts (both the Exclusive Ephemera, designed by Claudia Van Rooijen from the embellishment kit and the Amy Tangerine die cuts from the main kit). It all started with that awesome, giraffe by the way! There is a bow clip from the Crate Paper small embellishment pack from the Main August Kit. I added the black foil stickers from Dear Lizzy from the embellishment kit.

I love the ‘a million tiny things’ sticker. This little guy packs a punch and has quite a few jobs on this page, and his friend ‘Life is now’ lends a helping hand. First, it’s pointing out all the small tasks that I need to get done today, my task list. But also, paired with the large giraffe, it’s a hint to me to look at those little everyday moments as more than just things to cross off of my list. Those little things are what make up life. For me, it’s not so much the birthdays and vacations, but being with my family and shaping my children and myself with this daily activities. I love my memories of the children stealing food as I cook it, and playfully batting away their hands with my spoon, or an older child explaining life to a younger one. Or even just being able to give my mind some white space as I do the dishes or the laundry, monotonous tasks that allow my mind to wander and dream.

This quote also reminds me to watch out for these tiny little things. Keep my eyes and ears open for those moments so that I can stash those away in my memories to pull out later when the children are fighting…again.

Next up is this funky exclamation point clip. It comes from the American Crafts Thickers by Dear Lizzy in the main kit. I just hot glued it to a paper clip, cutting out matching pieces for the backs. I was careful to only glue the dot bit to the inside part of the clip so that  the clip was still functional  in my planner.

This last project is a little out of my comfort zone, I’m not a big card maker, but I will make them when occasion calls.

From the August paper kit, I used white cardstock for the base of the card and layered vellum, the Saturday ‘Metro’ paper from Dear Lizzy and the ‘Cheery’ paper from Crate pepr’s Cute Girl line. I fussy cut some flowers from the ‘Central Park’ paper (also from Dear Lizzy). I dug into my Project Life kit to finish off the cards and used my favourites products, the enamel dots from My Mind’s Eye, the wood shapers from Dear Lizzy and those adorable bird stickers from the Amy Tangerine sticker book.

I hope you have a wonderful day, filled with white space!

Good Times | Christin Grønnslett

Hello everyone, Christin here today to share with you a layout with the August 2016 kits. Last week I went very dark and black with my layout on the Hip Kit Club with a mix of black and yellow with help of the Prima Marketing Oil Pastels from the August 2016 color kit. This week I am going for the opposite. This time I have again used the oil pastels and painted it in strips in Wilna Furstenberg style.

To create a dark page it’s all about the contrast colors, but to create a bright page it’s all about avoiding hard contrast, but focus more on the subtle ones.  For instance one of the papers with yellow was not as soft as the others, so if you feel that some of the papers are stealing the focus you have a few options: You have them as far away from you focal point – your photo(s) as possible; you can just use little pieces; you can tone them down with vellum (not done here).

The same principle goes for backgrounds. To soften up a background a great idea is to use stencils and heavy gesso. (Here I have used a stencil from an earlier kit)  I used quite a lot of water with my oil pastels, but I felt they could use some more softening.

Another thing to think about when you want to make a layout with soft colors is to use a lot of white. I have a white background, I trimmed the edges of my photos wide and I added an Amy Tangerine heart  under the photo (from the color kit) so that the light colored photo could stand out even with these spft colors.  I feel that the layer just underneath the photo is the most important layer. If you use a dark color – its’ because you want the photo to stand out more against the other papers and the secondary focus is contrast. But when you work with lighter colors you still want to do a contrast color and white does the same trick, just more subtle and the wider the white edges around the photo – the more the photo will stand out – even with darker colored papers.

Have a nice weekend /Christin
