Us Forever | Kim Watson

Morning friends!! I hope your week has gotten off to a great start?

Today I have a new page to share with you, using the last of my fabulous October Hip Kits. The kits were so jammed with ephemera & die cuts & I felt like I had hardly dented them, even after having already created 4 pages with them; so thought I’d go huge on this page.  I decided to really layer on the embellishments, especially knowing that they wouldn’t  match the style of the November kits (which I am hoping I will be getting any day now…the waiting it killing me LOL!)

Taaa-Daaa..this is the result!

Us Forever by Kim Watson

Kim Watson+Us Forever+HKC01

When designing this page, I wanted to use up loads of embellishments & accents but still leaving enough space for a chunk of handwritten journaling without being too busy. I did this by creating a cascade of elements top & bottom of the photo.

Kim Watson+Us Forever+HKC02

Fanning out the elements slightly, creates movement & space and adding little wood veneer accents, breaks up the sea of die cuts…helping the design breathe.

Kim Watson+Us Forever+HKC03

Adding secondary titles following the curves of the circles creates gorgeous interest & the photo of charcoal help complete the visual triangle.

Kim Watson+Us Forever+HKC04

x2 striped paper strips ground the design nicely & anchor my titles both sides of the photo & little wood veneer couple.

Thanks so much for stopping by the blog today. I hope you have enjoyed my the inspiration from the October Hip Kits? I am so looking forward to sharing some projects from my November Kit soon.

Perfect Pumpkins | Ashley Horton

I have another layout to share with you today, using the gorgeous October 2015 Hip Kit & Add-On Kits!  I wanted to create a fun background element on this layout, and mix in several patterned papers from the October 2015 Main Kit.  I designed the background in Silhouette Studio, and worked on putting it together before adding my photo and other embellishments.

Perfect Pumpkins

Once I had the background finished, I placed my photo and the embellishment cluster to the right, using some of the Simple Stories wood veneers included in the Main Kit and one of the Pink Paislee arrows from the October 2015 Embellishment Kit.  I also layered one of the Project Life cards from the October 2015 Project Life Kit, behind my photo, because the “such a good time” sentiment was perfect with my photo.

Perfect Pumpkins1

I liked that my photo had a good bit of White space at the top, and I used it to place my title.  This is a great way to keep your title from getting lost in the background, if you have a busy background pattern.  I wanted to include several embellishments from the Kits, so I placed a few more wood veneers from Simple Stories, Bits & Ephemera from Pink Paislee and Pebbles Inc., and enamel dots from Heidi Swapp around the layout.

Perfect Pumpkins2

To finish off the layout, I added a bit of machine stitching to a few of the embellishments.  I love the extra texture that stitching adds to a layout!

Whatever | Missy Whidden

Hey there, friends!  Missy back again today.  I have another layout to share with you using the gorgeous October Hip Kits!  I wanted to create a page that was the opposite of my last layout, which was light and airy.  This one is very bold, and I used only black, white, oranges and pinks.  To add more of an impact, I used black and white photos.  I started with my patterned paper strips layered together vertically.  I added a few pieces of the Pebbles Washi Tape strips from the Embellishment Kit and then covered a lot of it with white gesso.  I used the Prima Watercolor Pencils from the Color Kit (and a few from the other set we received in the April Color Kit) to create that beautiful watercolor effect.  I used the plus sign stencil and some distress inks from my stash to create some fun shapes as well.  This was so fun to put together, and even though there are a lot of Fall elements in the kits, you can definitely create any type of theme with them.
Since my photos are of my little girl running off during a photoshoot, I decided to be funny and add this Simple Stories wood veneer girl.  My daughter is so NOT a dressy girl, so this was just too cute and I had to use her.  I covered her in white gesso and then used gelatos to color her.  I layered more washi tape, paper and that big ampersand here as well as lots of messy stitching.  Those fun enamel dots are from Heidi Swapp, and they matched these colors so perfectly.
Here you can see some of the background mediums and washi tape.  I love how these colors pop against the black and white.
More messy stitching here.  I highly recommend those Prima Watercolor Pencils…they are so fun to use and very easy to add color.  And it doesn’t take a lot…just a few scribbles and add water to smudge.
I used some of Nicole Nowosad’s cut files here.  These fun arrows were the perfect touch to show movement across the page.  And I love the Dear Lizzy Thicker…that just HAD to be my title.  Those Evalicious puffy alphas are awesome for smaller titles.
Here’s my process video if you’d like to check it out…I hope it inspires you in some way!

Thanks so much for stopping by, and have a great day!

Fabulously Fallish | Ashley Horton

The October 2015 Hip Kit & Add-On Kits landed on my doorstep this past weekend, so Fall can officially begin!  There are so many fun Fall goodies in this month’s Kits, and I am kind of giddy since Fall is my favorite season.  Granted, sometimes Fall just kind of passes us by down here in the south, but I’m determined to enjoy any little bit of it.  While I was out enjoying the nice weather this past Saturday, a squirrel was visiting and snacking on some flowers.  I snapped a few photos of him and knew I wanted to use the picture on my first layout this month!

Fabulously Fallish

I started the layout by layering a couple of cards from the October 2015 Project Life Kit behind my photo.  Before adding the photo to the background paper from the October 2015 Main Kit, I used a brown pen to trace the plus sign design from the stencil included in the October 2015 Color Add-On.  Then I cut a few leaves on my Silhouette Cameo, and added coordinating water colors to the background paper, before stitching the leaves down.

Fabulously Fallish1

I used a mix of the Evalicious Navy Puffy Alphabet Stickers and Dear Lizzy Thickers from the Project Life and Main Kits for my title.  I always love to mix typography in my titles.  And the mix of embellishments from the October 2015 Embellishment Kit, Project Life Kit and Main Kit, were perfect for adding the finishing touches to my layout!

Fabulously Fallish2

I can’t wait to get started on more layouts, with this month’s Kits!  And we also have new Cut Files and Printables to go along with the Kit this month.  Make sure you visit the Hip Kit Club Website and sign up for a FREE account to have access to each month’s downloads!

Guest Designer, Christin Gronnslett – Hoyt & Lavt

Hi, everyone ! Christin here again to share with you my last guest designer project that I created with the June 2015 Hip Kits.  What I love working with kits is that you by changing just a few papers get so different color combinations.  For my previous projects I have focused more on either yellow/pink/orange or aqua/yellow and for my last project I have chosen the dark blue colors as my main colors.

I love papers with maps that covers the country that I come from – Norway and I wanted that to be placed somewhat in the middle.  If you are not acquainted with European geography Norway is the country with the very long coast you see next following the dots from the ampersand to the southern tip. Since I cut out everything else but pieces of Europe and Greenland you can’t see how far north it is, but I  where I live (59 degrees north) is further north than Juneau, Alaska, but because of the nice Gulf Stream we often get pretty nice summer weather and I can take a dip in the ocean and in  it gets over 20 degrees celcius  (68 Fahrenheit).  Last year the weather was so great that my kids started the bathing season in early May. (then it was maybe only  15-16 degrees celcius (59-60 Fahrenheit)    Unfortunately the weather isn’t always so stable so even if these pics are from the middle of July it wasn’t so warm that day.

The title Høyt & Lavt means High and Low, which is the name of Scandinavia’s largest climbing park with trails for all ages and experience. My then 7 year old loves it and he is hoping that he this year is tall enough for bigger challenges and longer zip line rides.

I cut the papers in strips of different widths and adhered them to the paper. Again I have added drops of mist to avoid the straight lines and also layered with different sizes of frames to avoid the same with the matting under the photo.

Thank you for joining me, and I am hoping you enjoyed seeing my projects and you are inspired to create something amazing with your Hip Kits.

Best Advice | Kim Watson

Happy Saturday friends!

I hope your weekend has started off well & that you find time to grab a moment to get into your craft room. Today I am hoping my project might spark a little creativity in you. I am going to show you how to use the color kit add-on from the awesome August kits!

Just be You by Kim Watson

@HipKitClub @KimWatson @pinkfreshstudio @americancrafts crate_paper @shopEvalicious

The color kit add-on includes a five pack of stencils, I custom designed to coordinate with the August kits. I took those stencils & using the Dylusions paint included in the kit & a sponge, started layering subtle color onto the background page. Using the triangle stencil as a doodle template added such great dimension to the background. I urge to to play around with offset layers like I did. It resulted in such a fun effect!

August Color kit add-on

@HipKitClub @KimWatson @pinkfreshstudio @americancrafts crate_paper @shopEvaliciousOnce dry, I then layered some of the gorgeous printed acetate triangle accents from Pink Fresh found in the August Embellishment add-on kit!

@HipKitClub @KimWatson @pinkfreshstudio @americancrafts crate_paper @shopEvalicious

The fifth stencil is a sentiment which worked perfectly as my page title! Stitching a rough circle in black thread, added great emphasis, drawing ones eye to it. Something so simple, has such big impact!
@HipKitClub @KimWatson @pinkfreshstudio @americancrafts crate_paper @shopEvaliciousIn keeping with the diagonal page design, I added x2 obvious clusters, the top right one is a wonderful collage of aqua bits with highlights of gold & yellow. The wood veneer sentiment, I painted to match, is from the June kit.
@HipKitClub @KimWatson @pinkfreshstudio @americancrafts crate_paper @shopEvaliciousLayering a mixture of patterned papers, vellum & tags with pop dots made the perfect spot to place my secondary title & journaling. I love the trendy combination of the gold foil sticker title & bamboo alphas.

I hope you found this helpful! Remember, we have a great Hip Kit Member Forum frequented by super, supportive & encouraging crafters, for you to share your work. Join up today!

Hello SUMMER living | Kim Watson

Hello friends…how is your Saturday going?

I was looking thought some of my scrapbook albums last week (which are organised chronologically)  & realised that pages of my kids as little ones, were all subjected to my early scrapbooking ability (which was sketchy to say the least), complete with outdated products & boring page designs….hahaha! So I decided something needed to be done about that. I am on a mission to spice my albums & scrap older photos with modern scrapbook product…and what better way to do it than with the gorgeous July Kit from Hip Kit Club?!

Hello SUMMER living by Kim Watson

@HipKitClub @KimWatson @ellesstudiopins @simplestories @oct_afternoon @crate_paper #scrapbooking #layout #12x12 Loving the clean graphic patterns, vintage colors & fun frames, I decided some layering was in order. Keeping the neutral grey stripe on the bottom means it doesn’t dominate in any way. Using yellow & green as my anchor points, I created visual triangles within the page design. Notice how the vertical rows of different machine stitching draws ones eyes down the page from the title to the photos?

Kim Watson+helloSUMMERliving+HKC02Then I had fun with the Simple Stories frames. I filled them with photos, laid them on top of each other & added extra embellishments. The happy collage becoming a vital part of the page design.
Kim Watson+helloSUMMERliving+HKC03 Kim Watson+helloSUMMERliving+HKC04Kim Watson+helloSUMMERliving+HKC05 Kim Watson+helloSUMMERliving+HKC06The finishing touches came in the form of a long title, using some of the gorgeous alpha stickers in the July kits. The mixture of lovely fonts & finishes, which makes it really eye catching!

Thanks so much for joining me today! I hope you are loving your July & August kits? Remember to pop back tomorrow for more inspiration from the talented DT.

Love this Pup | Kim Watson

Hello…hello friends!

I have one more page to share before I crack open my July box which is waiting patiently on my desk…although I do admit, I have found it so hard not digging in there. I have resorted to looking in the box at least once a day, although it isn’t enough…haha. One cannot deny the pull of new craft stash, LOL.

Love this Pup by Kim Watson
@HipKitClub @KimWatson @crate_paper @pinkpaislee @americancrafts #scrapbookingkit #layout #papercrafts #12x12 This page capturing my little boy & his adorable ‘Schnaffy’ puppy. She came into our lives quite by chance & I am ever so glad she did. She transformed a strictly ‘NO-PET’ family, into a gooey bunch of doggie lovers. I know the page isn’t strictly embellished in the traditional pet themed way, but hey…one has to think out of the box sometimes with gorgeous accents & papers like these at one’s finger tips. I love how the fun colors & funky designs make for an eye catching page design.
@HipKitClub @KimWatson @crate_paper @pinkpaislee @americancrafts #scrapbookingkit #layout #papercrafts #12x12 My layout was inspired by the super cute frames & ephemera from Crate paper, they were just calling to be layered together with these adorable photos. The wood veneer & enamel dots create perfect visual triangles within the page design.
@HipKitClub @KimWatson @crate_paper @pinkpaislee @americancrafts #scrapbookingkit #layout #papercrafts #12x12 These pretty layers make me so happy!! Die cuts…colorful stickers, chipboard & a hint of glitter….perfect for any page theme.
@HipKitClub @KimWatson @crate_paper @pinkpaislee @americancrafts #scrapbookingkit #layout #papercrafts #12x12 The Embellishment Add-on kit has an adorable camera stamp included. Stamping it in the magenta Avery Elle ink included in the Color Add-on kit makes for the cutest of accents. Teamed with wood veneer, stickers & other accents…makes for an adorable cluster.

Pages like this are so easy to create with perfectly co-ordinated kits like Hip Kits.If you aren’t already a subscriber…I urge you to take a look at the August kit & Add-ons….they are drop dead gorgeous!!!

Hello Little Moments | Kim Watson

Hey friends…how are you on this fine Saturday afternoon?

I am excited to be able to share my latest Hip Kits page using the June kit & add-ons.

Hello little Moments by Kim Watson
@HipKitClub @KimWatson @fancypantsdsgns @crate_paper  @shopEvalicious #summercrafting #12x12 #layout #scrapbooking

This kit is bursting with so much gorgeous Fancy Pants Designs papers, tags & a mini book pack from the #summersun collection. It is so fresh & summery, making it super easy to put this cute page together.

@HipKitClub @KimWatson @fancypantsdsgns @crate_paper @shopEvalicious #summercrafting #12x12 #layout #scrapbooking Influenced by the Insta Pack from Fancy Pants Designs, I opted for a grid design for this layout. Each of the 4 clusters, made up of a square of patterned paper, tags, sentiments & sweet embellishments. Recoloring wood veneer sentiments from Evalicious is the best discovery I have made all year. A little watercolor paint in two shades of pink, blended to create an ombre effect…is the perfect way to jazz up a tag.
@HipKitClub @KimWatson @fancypantsdsgns @crate_paper @shopEvalicious #summercrafting #12x12 #layout #scrapbooking Again layers are what make this little cluster work so well. A fussy cut flower, gold glitter sun shape, an acetate chevron accent & tags, seem random, but the colors together help balance their corner & keeping everything flush right…adds tension to the overall design.

@HipKitClub @KimWatson @fancypantsdsgns @crate_paper @shopEvalicious #summercrafting #12x12 #layout #scrapbooking Now for an adorable photo of our sweet little family from some years back. Layering subtle colored tags are the way to really draw attention to it.
@HipKitClub @KimWatson @fancypantsdsgns @crate_paper @shopEvalicious #summercrafting #12x12 #layout #scrapbooking The last cluster makes use of a fabulous card from the Fancy Pants Designs Insta pack…it has tiny pineapples all over it. Roll on SUMMER!!! Craft, off-set with a gold foil die-cut title & gold glitter sentiment, make this corner extra special!

And there you have it…a clean, fresh page filled with super cute papers & accents. I hope you have found it inspirational. If you have…remember to share your pages with the whole gang over in the Hip Kit Club member forum. Here is the link if you aren’t already a member.

Have a fabulous rest of your weekend! See you next time!
