Lovely | Terhi Koskinen

Hello all, it’s Terhi here today with you! I made a scrapbook layout mixing products from four kits: March Main Kit, March Color KitFebruary Main Kit and February Color Kit. march_1 (1)framed There are a lot of things why I love to scrap with ready-made scrapbook kits, but one of the biggest reasons is how smoothly the kits complement each other every month. Like in this layout: Papers are from mainly from March Main Kit, some scraps from February Main Kit, and lots of paints and mists from both March and February Color Kit, and all goes together perfectly! Now that I got my April Kits, I see a lot of ways to add “old” stuff with all my new goodies. march_1 (2) I recorded a video while creating the layout. To the background I used Amy Tangerine stencil (from February Color Kit) along with a big circle stencil to get even edges to the circles. You can find the details of how to create it from the video. march_1 (6)

I hope you’ll enjoy the video!

Have a great day!

Terhi Koskinen

Hello, I’m Terhi Koskinen from Finland. Scrapbooking is more than a hobby for me, it’s a lifestyle – it starts with photograph session and ends when I get my creation where I wanted. And then it starts again.

My style is modern, fresh and simple, and my creations have always lots of layers with different medias, matching colors, straight lines and touch of something shiny. Always lots of textures and something soft too, like my favorite thing thread. While creating, I love to record a process videos – hope to inspire you with them to get your hands dirty, too!

I get my inspiration from pictures I take during the days, in another words from my everyday life: I’m mother for two beautiful daughters, wife for my handsome husband and studious planning assistant in my day time job. In addition to crafting, I horse-ride, so that’s one more topic to my creations.

Today I am so excited to share a few of the projects & process videos that I have created with our February Hip Kits.

Spring layers | Kim Watson

Hi! Kim Watson here with another project using the gorgeous February kit, and this time I got messy and played with inks, gesso, texture paste & layers. I wanted to create something with energy & color. Don’t you just love that the Hip Kits have a color add-on every month, it makes adding mixed media to my pages a breeze!

Here’s my finished layout-

Gel gesso, texture paste & paint make the prettiest background, easy to adapt to different themes by merely changing the colors of the paint you use.

@HipKitClub @KimWatson

Try using little die-cut labels from the My Minds Eye ephemera pack, as a border for your photograph. Die-cut white leaves for great texture! @HipKitClub @KimWatson

More die-cuts from My Minds Eye teamed with chipboard stickers from Craft Paper & Flair from Evalicious. @HipKitClub @KimWatson

Left over paper strips make a simple border along the edge of the page, stitched for texture. The gorgeous cobolt foam Alphas from American Crafts really make a statement against the yellow background.

Thanks for stopping by today, I hope you have found this Spring page inspiring!

Mini Brag Book | Kim Watson

My Mom loves to brag about her kids & grandkids. Visitors pop around for tea & out come the albums & mini books. Knowing this gives me a legit excuse to make mini brag books regularly, particularly because they are quick & so rewarding to make. I make sure, when I design them I don’t add too much journaling, knowing how much my Mom & her sweet friends love to chat,  it leaves conversation space for my Mom to fill in the details.

Mini Brag Book by Kim Watson

This is how you can make one for yourself.

  1. Using the gorgeous February kit, grab yourself a selection of pretty patterned papers, the American Crafts foam alpha sheet, enamel dots, ephemera die-cuts & gold rub-ons from My Mind’s Eye.
  2. Cut pages for your mini book 4.5″x4.5″.
  3. Using Heidi Swapp washi tape, join the pages together
  4. Once you have the desired amount of pages, attach x2 white cardstock covers to the outer pages for strength.
  5. Bind the whole book together with a couple of layers of washi tape. The beauty of Heidi Swapp washi tape, is that it has a variety of patterns in one roll which makes for super interesting detail on the book spine.
  6. Finally bind bakers twine around the middle pages of the book, tying on the outside.
  7. Let’s fill those pages!!

This is the Story + a Tutorial| Kim Watson

Morning friends!

I hope you have a super weekend planned & have put some time aside to get some crafting done, because I have a fun technique for you to try. Using the gorgeous February kit, I created this page with lots of white space & clusters of detail for interest.

This is The Story by Kim Watson

@Hip Kit Club #February2015 by @KimWatson #hipkitclub #scrapbooking #12x12 #layout

@Hip Kit Club #February2015 by @KimWatson #hipkitclub #scrapbooking #12x12 #layoutEven thought the February kit was filled with really bright colors, by selecting a selection of green & black & white papers, I was able to keep my palette tonal, achieving a super Spring inspired layout.

@Hip Kit Club #February2015 by @KimWatson @Heidi Swapp @We R Memory Keepers @Crate Paper @American Crafts @My Mind's Eye inc #hipkitclub #scrapbooking #12x12 #layout

By cutting the pretty patterned circles out from the Webster’s Pages, Beautiful Chic, Swatches paper; I was left with a handful of pretty accents to play with. Arranging them in loose vertical rows, adding wood veneer & vellum circles & then stitching them, created this amazing background!

@Hip Kit Club #February2015 by @KimWatson @Heidi Swapp @We R Memory Keepers @Crate Paper @American Crafts @My Mind's Eye inc #hipkitclub #scrapbooking #12x12 #layout@Hip Kit Club #February2015 by @KimWatson @Heidi Swapp @We R Memory Keepers @Crate Paper @American Crafts @My Mind's Eye inc #hipkitclub #scrapbooking #12x12 #layout

I wanted more black & white accents to balance the page design, so grabbed a Sharpie & some white paper & doodled little flower & leaf clusters to compliment the chipboard accents from the Crate Paper 12×12 sticker sheet. The tiny gold hearts were cut from the Crate Paper, Maggie Holmes Flea Market, Gold Tile thickers.

@Hip Kit Club #February2015 by @KimWatson @Heidi Swapp @We R Memory Keepers @Crate Paper @American Crafts @My Mind's Eye inc #hipkitclub #scrapbooking #12x12 #layoutThis happy Spring cluster is a combination of chipboard Crate Paper 12×12 sticker sheet, die-cut flowers from My Mind’s Eye, Jubilee Wild Berry, Mix Bag Die Cuts, my own hand doodled flowers & stitched vellum leaves. If you are interested to know how I made the leaves, I have a full tutorial below.

Vellum Leaf Tutorial by Kim Watson

@Hip Kit Club #February2015 by @KimWatson #hipkitclub #scrapbooking #tutorial

  • Vellum Paper
  • Lime Green Chalk Ink or Spray ink and a sponge
  • Sharp scissors
  • Sewing machine
  • Baby wipe

  1. Draw your leaf shapes onto a piece of vellum paper
  2. Cut them out
  3. Ink the edges of the leaves
  4. Gently blend the ink making sure to dampen the whole leaf
  5. Allow to dry into a great looking leaf shape (you will notice how beautifully vellum curls when made damp & allowed to dry)

A couple of cards | Alex

Hi all! Alex here with something as unusual as cards!

Alex Gadji - February cards

I am not a card maker, but I do enjoy the process. Especially when there are so many fun elements making it all pretty easy. The February kits are perfect for cards!

For the first one I used the Fountain cardstock (from the cardstock kit) as my base. I added a piece of WP Beautiful Chic Swatches paper and covered it with vellum (also included in the cardstock kit).

Alex Gadji - You are my fav

I cut out the 3×3 card from one of the Heidi Swapp papers and added the cutest Crate Paper typewriter chipboard underneath it. A few more final touches and the card was done.

Alex Gadji - You are my fav closeup

My starting point for the second card was the beautiful “Today is the day” Crate chipboard. I wanted it to dominate the card.

Alex Gadji - Today is the day

I have used the kraft cardstock, a piece of the lovely watercolor Love Notes paper and a piece of vellum as my base. I punched out a bunch of small hearts from the Heidi Swapp Mountain Trail paper to use as decoration. I couldn’t stop adding them! I hope that they are not too much 🙂

Alex Gadji - Today is the day closeup

That would be all from me this time. Thanks so much for stopping by!

Love Together with Wendy

Ah, we made it to another Friday!  🙂  Welcome everyone, Wendy here today to share some inspiration from my February kit.  So I thought my last post was my last layout from my February kit, but my March kit still had not arrived so…  What was left to create with?  Lots of pieces! Love Together border I did have this piece of Amy Tangerine paper left from the Main kit that looked great with this pictures of my kids at the beach and I really wanted to use this We R Memory Keepers watercolor paper that I hadn’t found a way to use yet, so I combined those in a pretty simple design. I then took all of my scraps and began to layer around my picture, building interest. Love Together-4 I chose to use black as a visual triangle at the top of my page, under my picture Love Together-3 and then again in an embellishment cluster at the bottom.  I did pull in a watercolor word from the January kit to add a little more to my layout. Love Together-2 While I was working on my layout I found a few pieces that I thought might make another layout so I began pulling items and laying them together as I constructed the first layout.  This layout was really a bare bones, kill the kit kind of layout as I created 9 layouts, 1 PL spread, and 1 card with the February kit! Journey of a Young Man border I was drawn to the doors paper to show that my son learning a new skill can open doors.  I used the journey and world rub-on to show its a new phase in his life.  The words are to remember that even though he is starting to work some, life is still full of good times.  (We homeschool and my hubby has his own business so the boys are able to learn book learning and hands on skills.) Journey of a Young Man-2 Journey of a Young Man-3 Thanks for joining me this morning!  Have a blessed day and don’t forget to stop back by to see what Alex has in store for you tonight! Best Ever Scientist | Irit Landgraf

Hi! Irit here with another layout I created using the February Hip Kits (this is layout no. 12!!). This layout is all about using leftovers, which is something I like to do, cause I don’t want any of those lovely papers or embellishments to go to waste! Here’s my finished layout-

2015-03-09 12_edited-2

I used scraps of patterned paper from the main kit and the embellishment kit to create lots of fun layers, but I kept all the ‘mess’ on a small part of the page. The while space keeps the design from being too busy.

2015-03-09d 12

I used the Dear Lizzy stencil from the color kit and pigment ink from a previous kit to add some flowers to the background.

Thanks for visiting and I’ll see you next week with a new project!

Card Duo | Ashley Horton

I always have a hard time throwing away any of the bits from my monthly Hip Kits!  Even with all of the projects I’ve created so far, with the February 2015 Hip Kit & Add-On Kits, I’ve still got lots of bits and pieces left over.  All of these left overs are perfect for creating cards!  And you could even mix left overs from your kits together, to get really awesome looks.

Hello Adventure

The cardstock sheets from the February Cardstock Add-On, are perfect for creating a base for your cards.  I used one of the kraft pieces for this card, and used a mix of My Mind’s Eye products and Evalicious products.  The MME rub-on worked perfectly over the cardstock, to create part of the sentiment for my card.

 Every Single Day

You can create unique background looks for your cards using the Heidi Swapp Washi Tape included in the February 2015 Embellishment Kit.  I tore several strips from one of the rolls and layered it over one of the patterned papers from the We R Memory Keepers 6×6 Paper Pad, that came in the Embellishment Kit, too!

So if you’re like me, and just can’t throw away those little paper scraps, try whipping up some quick cards, once you reach the end of your kit!

Sweet Distraction | Missy Whidden

Hey there, Hip Kit friends!  Missy here.  I’ve created one more layout using the 2015 February Hip Kits…my 6th one!  I decided to use some of the kraft cardstock from the Cardstock Kit as my base for this one.  I was in the mood to go bright and bold again, so I reached for the Calypso Teal Dylusions from the Color Kit.  I sprayed some onto my paint tray and then used a wide paint brush to just brush it onto the paper in streaks.  I used a deeper blue gelato and made some extra smudges.  I used some of the vellum as well as a few patterned papers as layers and then added in a few embellishments around the layout.

Sweet Distraction

Here’s a close-up of the layers.  I used the lid to the Dylusions as a stamp to create those little circles.  I also added some machine stitching.

Sweet Distraction1

I still had a few pieces of the wood veneer left, so I added this one here.  I also mixed up my title by using the bright blue Heidi Swapp alphas and a word cut from my Cameo.

Sweet Distraction2

Here’s the bottom right corner.  I really love how this part came together.  I added some of the Dylusions and gelato here and then layered some vellum circles, a piece of the cut apart Heidi Swapp paper, a big pink circle from an MME paper, some Heidi Swapp washi tape and a Crate paper chipboard bird…so many different elements that just work together so nicely.

Sweet Distraction3

Isn’t this bright blue just gorgeous?  I love that it adds such a bold pop of color and is very pretty mixed with the teal spray.

Sweet Distraction4

I can’t wait to get started with the March Kits…I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working my way through these February Kits.  I hope you’ve been inspired!  I just love seeing all of your work on our forum 🙂

Have a GREAT day!

Missy Whidden
