So happy together | Anna Komenda

Hello Hip Kit fans. It’s Anna here with some new layout created with July 2016 Hip Kits.

First I want to tell You a little about what I do when my mojo is low. It’s one of my few methods and it can be used with kits or paper collections. I just pick one or two colors that are present in the kit / collection and I choose every single element that fits my color scheme. I run through papers, ephemera packs, stickers and I group everything in one place.

1

This is what I did with July kits. First – I chose this gorgeous ombre blue exclusive paper designed by Kim Watson. I really liked it and wanted to use but I didn’t have any particular plan. I checked exclusive ephemeras pack from Main Kit and Embellishment Kit looking for some blue / white elements. I put them in one place. Later I decided that I will add a little bit of silver by using Freckled Fawn puffy metallic stickers.

DSC_1643

When I decided of a color palette I walked through my printed photos (I always print more pictures to use in future projects) I chose two that matched my paper. White Bella Blvd. chipboard stickers were also a perfect match with my photos and other stuff.

DSC_1650

I wanted to add some subtile detail to the background so I took a vellum sheet from Cardstock Kit and cut heart background using  July “I heart this” cut file designed by Ashley Horton. Teal glitter was some stronger, eye catching accent that I decided to add too. “Fancy free” wooden elements were covered with teal glitter so I used them in my composition.

Project Life “High five” little chipboards were like cherry on the top for my layout. You can find them in Project Life Kit.

And that’s all. Really fast and simple, even when Your mojo is low. I encourage You to try this “go monochromatic” method to high up You mojo and strech Your kits.

July kit Guest Designer: Zsoka Marko

Many thanks to our July kit Guest Designer, Zsoka Marko for sharing her amazing talent with us over the last couple of weeks. It has been an inspiring & colorful journey. If you want to keep up with her creative endeavors, be sure to see the bottom of the post for the links.

Hello there scrappy friends,

Zsoka back here with you today with my second and final guest post for Hip Kit Club! Thank you so much again Kimberly and Kim for this awesome opportunity, I always love working with Hip Kits!

Stuck on You by Zsoka Marko

20160716_103919FINALbannerW852

For my first layout I used the cutest cactus cut file from Kim that was a bonus file this month. I modified it a little, added some flowers from an earlier HKC cut file set and I also added Ashley’s heart cut file to the pot!

20160716_103926FINALbanner20160716_103951FINALbanner

I like experimenting with cut files and add my twist to them! I then blew it up so that it took up most of my page and cut it from one of the exclusive papers. I didn’t want to back it with one single color so I was happy when I found this gorgeous exclusive paper that reminds me of a sunset. This way I had some color variation without having to back each section of the cut file separately. I then stitched around the cactus with white thread to give it more texture.

20160716_103958FINALbanner

For my background paper I chose the striped paper from the Illustrated Faith line. I cut my title from white cardstock and adhered it to my background. Then I hand stitched around the letters. I tried to match my embroidery floss colors to the sunset paper to have a more harmonious look. I layered my photo over some papers, chipboard frame, washi tapes.

20160716_103943FINALbanner

Finally I added embellishments to my cactus, mostly chipboard pieces. I found some cute flowers in the ephemera pack too, but only two matched my color scheme. So I ended up fussy cutting a third one from a piece of scrap paper! I popped up my cactus with pop dots to add some dimension and also added some to the flowers from the ephemera pack. Added my date on a chipboard piece and done!

Wanna Hug card by Zsoka Marko

20160716_105617FINALbannerW852

Obviously I wanted to use the same cactus cut file for my card too. Here I didn’t modify it, just cut it as it was from white card stock. I sprayed some Shimmerz Don’t Citron Me on a piece of white card stock, added my white cactus on top. Then I also added some gold metallic thread from my stash to add a bit of interest to my card.

20160716_105634FINALbanner

There was a cute little cactus in the ephemera pack and I thought why not layer this on top of the white one? I added some pop dots to it and adhered it down. I fussy cut two tiny flowers from one of the Simple Stories papers, added pop dots to these too and glued them on my tiny cactus! So cute isn’t it?

20160716_105617detailbanner

Then I added a sentiment using those gorgeous HKC exclusive alphas! I added a piece of scrap paper behind this and on top of my white card stock base. I did a bit of machine stitching to finish off my card. Simple and quick!

20160718_135301FINALbannerW852

For my second and last layout I created a cut file from a part of Ashley’s Happily Ever After file and a circle. I generally go for pattern paper for my backgrounds too and I wanted my cut file to stand out, so first I backed it with a subtle yellow pattern paper, then I hand stitched around it and I also drew around the flowers in the circle with a black pen.

20160718_135315FINALbanner

To decorate my layout I added some fussy cut flowers, some of which I popped up. I also added some of the Freckled Fawn crosses.

20160718_135311FINALbanner

I was so happy I finally found a way to use a PL card on my layout because I just love them. Especially these past 2 months, the new finish of the cards is amazing! So I chose the one that had July on it and used it as part of my title.

20160718_135322FINALbanner20160718_135325FINALbanner

For the rest I used the exclusive alpha stickers. I added some layers of papers behind my photo, as always, and I was done!

It doesn’t get better card by Zsoka Marko

20160718_135423FINALbanner

My last card is a simple one too: I adhered some paper scrap to my white base, stitched around it. Then I added one of the Heidi Swapp frames and some more fussy cut flowers, gold thread and crosses just like on my layout.

20160718_135451FINALbanner20160718_135434FINALbanner

Finally I picked a sentiment chipboard from the Project Life chipboard sheet and glued it on top of my frame. A bit of black paint splatter and that was it! So simple right?

20160718_135500FINALbanner

I hope you like what you see and I could give you some ideas on how to use your kits in an efficient way (that is, use your scraps from your layouts to make cards or similar smaller projects! Don’t throw away anything! Yes, hoarder here, I’ll admit!).

Thank you for stopping by and have a great day! X

Gettin’ Crazy with Text and Alphas | Adrienne Alvis

Hello and happy Tuesday, crafty friends! There are so many lovely alpha sets, word phrase ephemera, and text bits in the July 2016 Hip Kits that I just had to create a long title for this layout that I have to share with you today!

adventureawaits1

I used one of the July cut files designed by Ashley Horton, cut it out from the B side of the “Ombre Sky” patterned paper, and layered it on top of the “Art Class” patterned paper from The Happy Life collection and then positioned my photo to the left side of my page.

adventureawaits3

Next, I added some Bella Blvd Ciao Chip phrases, available in the July 2016 Main Kit, for part of my long title and then placed a mix of HKC exclusive puffy alpha stickers and the American Crafts foam Thickers, available in the July 2016 Embellishment Kit, for the rest of it.

adventureawaits4

To make positioning different alphas in a long title easier, I used a clear ruler and placed  the letter stickers on it so I could hold it over where I thought I might want them to go before I committed to sticking them on my page. This is a very helpful trick for me!

adventureawaits7

After I was satisfied with my title placement, I layered several punched circles from some of the journaling cards, available in the July 2016 Project Life Kit, and placed them on my page so I could make embellishment clusters out of them. The ephemera phrases from the HKC exclusive “The Happy Life” collection came in handy to add extra color and depth to my page.

adventureawaits2

I also added several of the Happy Life and Freckled Fawn puffy stickers to my page so they would pop and give off a more whimsical vibe.

adventureawaits5

I hope I’ve inspired you to use lots of alphas and text phrases on your next layout! Thanks so much for stopping by and have a fabulous day!

Fun with Ephemera…and Froyo | Andrea Bethke

Hi Everyone! It’s Andrea again, and today we will be having some fun with ephemera and the July Hip Kit Club kits! First, let’s talk a little about ephemera. I love ephemera! I am always using ephemera in my scrapbooking.

06-HKC-Froyo-LO-2016-07-30-with-banner

There are a few different kinds of ephemera. There is the kind that you get from the places you go…like a ticket from a movie you went to, a map from Disneyland, a menu from your fave restaurant, that sort of thing. Then there is the kind you collect that reflects the things you like to do and your style…like me, I like to collect vintage ephemera like antique and retro Valentines Day and Christmas cards, and also vintage Disney ephemera. And then there is the kind of ephemera that comes in a scrapbook collection. This is a kind of “faux” ephemera, if you will, but I love it just as much as the other kinds and it is always the embellishment in a scrapbook collection or kit that I find myself using the most! I was super excited this month to see that both the July Main Hip Kit and the Project Life Kit had exclusive ephemera packs in them!

01-HKC-Froyo-LO-2016-07-30

So today I want to share with you a scrapbook layout and a pocket page that I made for my project life album using lots of ephemera! I wanted to document a recent trip my hubby and I made to our fave Froyo place! I wanted to use ephemera from both of the July kits and a couple pieces of actual ephemera from the Froyo place. Project Life albums are a perfect place for your ephemera — they help complete the story of your daily life along with your pictures.

03-HKC-Froyo-LO-2016-07-30

Anyways, I wanted to use the different kinds of ephemera in different ways. As you can see, some I used like stickers, some I clustered up, some I doodled on, and some I layered. I decided to add some stitching to some of my ephemera layers and clusters too.

08-HKC-Froyo-LO-2016-07-30

And, as you can see, I also did some hand stitching on my page with a large heart embellishment I made, with some criss-crossed blue thread and a piece of the Bella Blvd patterned paper from the kit, in order to reflect the “good life” ephemera in the adjoining pocket page.

10-HKC-Froyo-LO-2016-07-30

17-HKC-Froyo-LO-2016-07-30

I layered some of the exclusive Hip Kit ephemera up underneath a picture on my layout to show you how ephemera can also be used as a kind of mat for your pics.

09-HKC-Froyo-LO-2016-07-30

The ephemera in the kits can be used flat, or you can pop them up to add more dimension, like the little ephemera flower on my page that I popped up with foam dots on top of a button to make a really cool, dimensional embellishment.

14-HKC-Froyo-LO-2016-07-30.jpg

I also want to point out how I used my “found” ephemera as well — as you can see, I used the little “Mickey’s Froyo” advertisement by just slipping it into a pocket. I added the “oh what fun” ephemera piece from the exclusive ephemera pack in the main kit and a little bow paperclip from the kit to just add some more interest to my found ephemera.

16-HKC-Froyo-LO-2016-07-30.jpg

And for the small “Mickey’s Froyo” card, I just added it to my exclusive Hip Kit Project Life journaling card (where I wrote my fave froyo flavors) with another one of those cute bow paperclips from American Crafts. This way, it is easily removeable — a kind of interactive element in your project life album. I hope that I have inspired you to use some ephemera in your Project Life Scrapbooking today and that you will have as much fun with the exclusive Hip Kit July ephemera packs as I did!

Beautiful Blooms! | Adrienne Alvis

Hello, Hip Kit Club fans! Today I’m sharing a layout that I created using the July 2016 Hip Kits. I was really inspired by the gorgeous HKC exclusive patterned papers designed by Kim Watson and by today’s “beautiful bloom” theme for my page.

hellosunshine1

I split the difference between the two beautiful exclusive patterned papers by cutting them in half and layering the floral piece over the yellow piece. I placed the photo of my daughter in one of the photo frames from the HKC exclusive Color Me Happy Word Stickers (available in the July 2016 Embellishment Kit) and placed it toward the bottom of my page. To continue with the “beautiful bloom” theme, I added lots of lovely floral puffy stickers and die cuts from the Color Me Happy ephemera pack that is included in the July 2016 Main Kit.

hellosunshine2

I also added several of the Amy Tangerine Happy Together rubber charms around my photo for added dimension and color pop. I filled the middle of some of the flowers on the patterned paper with puffy stickers and one of the exclusive flair badges, also available in the July 2016 Embellishment Kit.

hellosunshine5

I completed my page by sprinkling a few different colors of spray ink around the yellow patterned paper side, including the Shimmerz Coloringz “Don’t Citron Me” non-shimmering mist available in the July 2016 Color Kit, along with several of the HKC exclusive acrylic dots for a fun and textured finishing touch.

4hellosunshine

There are so many beautiful bloom inspired papers and embellishments in this month’s kit! I hope I’ve given you some inspiration on how to use some of them today!

Have a wonderful day and thanks so much for stopping by!

Laugh Out Loud Title Fun | Andrea Bethke

Hi Everyone! Andrea here, and I’m going to share with you a fun layout I did where the focus is really on the title…but without distracting too much from or taking away from the picture. I don’t know about you, but when I scrap a layout, I like to really emphasize and draw focus first and foremost to the picture or pictures in that layout. However, sometimes it is fun to draw focus to another element on your page first and foremost, like the journaling, ephemera, or the title. For this layout, I used the July Hip Kit Club kits to make a 12×12 layout that really draws attention to the title of the page first, and then brings your eye around to the picture that the title is all about.

08-HKC-Laugh-Layout-2016-07-16-with-banner

For my layout, I wanted to document a funny moment with my hubby. We were sticking out our tongues and laughing and so the title of my layout just had to be “laugh”! We love to laugh! I used one piece of white cardstock from the add on Paper kit for the background of my layout and one to cut out a really, really big “laugh” for my title. I used some paints to paint my “laugh” with an ombre effect and then glittered around the word. I wanted the title to be painted and glittered not just because I wanted it to stand out a lot, but also so that it would match some of the main elements on my layout. I wanted it to match all the hearts that I punched from the exclusive Hip Kit paper, Painted Dreams (the one that looks watercolored with black stripes), and also to match the glittered frame from Paige Evans Fancy Free by Pink Paislee which I used to frame my picture on the layout.

01-HKC-Laugh-Layout-2016-07-16

The repeating hearts on the layout serve to point out the sweet and silly love that my hubby and I have, not just with their shape but also because I wrote words like “happy” and “dorky” and “xoxo” on some of them in order to emphasize this fact and to also to re-emphasize the large “laugh” title.

03-HKC-Laugh-Layout-2016-07-16

07-HKC-Laugh-Layout-2016-07-16

To add some extra texture and interest to my layout, I used the several of the lovely embellishments that come in the July Hip kits, like the exclusive puffy stickers, the exclusive ephemera pack, the exclusive flair…all of which is so super cute!

02-HKC-Laugh-Layout-2016-07-16

I also used some other non-exclusive, but oh so adorable embellies from the kit, like the Becky Higgins Project Life chipboard, the Freckled Fawn gold hearts and plus signs, the Amy Tangerine rubber shapes, and a single American Crafts gold bow paperclip…all of which served to lead the eye around the page, especially to the title of the page and then to the picture. This is particularly true with the arrow embellishments that I used on this layout which literally point you to what I want you to look at!

04-HKC-Laugh-Layout-2016-07-16

I hope you like my layout and that you are inspired to create a title-focused layout using the pretty papers and goodies from the July Hip Kit Club kits! Please enjoy this process video of me making my “Laugh” layout!

Thank you for stopping by and I wish you a very happy, scrappy, fairytale of day filled with lots and lots of laughs!!!

December Documented by Kim Watson

Happy holidays friends, I hope you are having a fabulous time celebrating this special time of year with family & friends? I know I am and have been taking tons of photos which I have added to my December Documented album! I realise many of you might have completed your albums already but I am hoping mine might still inspire those of you from the Southern Hemisphere who received their kits a little later than our Northern Hemisphere friends & those of you still looking for a few ideas to complete yours.

With things quietening down a little today I am finally be able to share some of my D.D spreads with you. Living in South Africa means we have Christmas in Summer which can be tricky to scrap when using gorgeous, winter inspired  products. I found by working with the kit palettes closely & making the photos black & white, I was able to successfully combine our beach & summer Christmas photos  with products from the December Documented kit & November 2015 kits.

December Documented album by Kim Watson

Kim Watson+Dec Documented+HKC01I began the first page with the story of Christmas. A deep meaningful explanation of why we believe what we believe. To fit more text into the space allowed without compromising the legibility, I set it up like a magazine article.Kim Watson+Dec Documented+HKC02

December Documented 2015 Day 1-5 | Adrienne Alvis

Good morning Hip Kit Club fans! I’m here with you today sharing my album cover and days 1-5 of my December Documented 2015 album…

december1-1

I used the December Documented 2015 Daily Kit, as well as items from the November 2015 Hip Kits to create my pages. I added our Christmas card as the first page by placing it on a piece of patterned paper sized to fit the album. I used a few acrylic stars and a wood veneer piece as embellishments.

5-5december

I didn’t bother covering the image up on the back of my Christmas card page even though the image is running vertically instead of horizontally. Instead, I added a cut file to the bottom left-hand corner and embellished it to represent the 25 days of Christmas.

3-3december

For Day 1 I used a photo of my three kiddos that I took on Thanksgiving because I always like to start my December Documented album with a photo of them and a few words about the upcoming holiday season.

december2-2

7-7december

On Day 2 I added a photo of myself enjoying a Starbuck’s treat and used my computer to combine the journaling for Day 2 and 3 and placed it next to the photo on Day 3.

december4-4

13-13december

And for Day 4 and 5, I kept my color scheme and design elements cohesive with Day 2 and 3 since they share the same spread in my album.

december5-5

I added the journaling for Day 5 under the “5” number flap for something a little more interactive.

15-15december

And here’s the full spread for December 2 – 5…

december3-3

If you haven’t started your December Documented album yet I hope I’ve given you a little inspiration and some ideas to try out! Thanks for joining me this morning and have a wonderful day!
