Guest Designer, Christin Gronnslett – Hoyt & Lavt

Hi, everyone ! Christin here again to share with you my last guest designer project that I created with the June 2015 Hip Kits.  What I love working with kits is that you by changing just a few papers get so different color combinations.  For my previous projects I have focused more on either yellow/pink/orange or aqua/yellow and for my last project I have chosen the dark blue colors as my main colors.

I love papers with maps that covers the country that I come from – Norway and I wanted that to be placed somewhat in the middle.  If you are not acquainted with European geography Norway is the country with the very long coast you see next following the dots from the ampersand to the southern tip. Since I cut out everything else but pieces of Europe and Greenland you can’t see how far north it is, but I  where I live (59 degrees north) is further north than Juneau, Alaska, but because of the nice Gulf Stream we often get pretty nice summer weather and I can take a dip in the ocean and in  it gets over 20 degrees celcius  (68 Fahrenheit).  Last year the weather was so great that my kids started the bathing season in early May. (then it was maybe only  15-16 degrees celcius (59-60 Fahrenheit)    Unfortunately the weather isn’t always so stable so even if these pics are from the middle of July it wasn’t so warm that day.

The title Høyt & Lavt means High and Low, which is the name of Scandinavia’s largest climbing park with trails for all ages and experience. My then 7 year old loves it and he is hoping that he this year is tall enough for bigger challenges and longer zip line rides.

I cut the papers in strips of different widths and adhered them to the paper. Again I have added drops of mist to avoid the straight lines and also layered with different sizes of frames to avoid the same with the matting under the photo.

Thank you for joining me, and I am hoping you enjoyed seeing my projects and you are inspired to create something amazing with your Hip Kits.

Guest Designer – Christin Gronnslett – Splash…

Christin here again to  show you one splash of a layout created with our June 2015 Hip Kits.   To really add to the feeling in the pic of falling deep into the pool (I was located on the balcony above the pool when I took the pictures) I picked mostly the aqua tones in the kit, and just added hints of yellow, gold and cork.  I added a little yellow sun on top of the page..  I also dropped different tones of liquid watercolors and mists to add to the feeling.

It’s sometimes fun to really show a series of photos like I have done here,  you can really see how he is fully covered in water. I use Photoscape to combine my photos like this.

If you notice I have even added the tissue paper that my kits came wrapped in.  They add an extra layer and was lovely color coordinated with the June Kits.

Love this Pup | Kim Watson

Hello…hello friends!

I have one more page to share before I crack open my July box which is waiting patiently on my desk…although I do admit, I have found it so hard not digging in there. I have resorted to looking in the box at least once a day, although it isn’t enough…haha. One cannot deny the pull of new craft stash, LOL.

Love this Pup by Kim Watson
@HipKitClub @KimWatson @crate_paper @pinkpaislee @americancrafts #scrapbookingkit #layout #papercrafts #12x12 This page capturing my little boy & his adorable ‘Schnaffy’ puppy. She came into our lives quite by chance & I am ever so glad she did. She transformed a strictly ‘NO-PET’ family, into a gooey bunch of doggie lovers. I know the page isn’t strictly embellished in the traditional pet themed way, but hey…one has to think out of the box sometimes with gorgeous accents & papers like these at one’s finger tips. I love how the fun colors & funky designs make for an eye catching page design.
@HipKitClub @KimWatson @crate_paper @pinkpaislee @americancrafts #scrapbookingkit #layout #papercrafts #12x12 My layout was inspired by the super cute frames & ephemera from Crate paper, they were just calling to be layered together with these adorable photos. The wood veneer & enamel dots create perfect visual triangles within the page design.
@HipKitClub @KimWatson @crate_paper @pinkpaislee @americancrafts #scrapbookingkit #layout #papercrafts #12x12 These pretty layers make me so happy!! Die cuts…colorful stickers, chipboard & a hint of glitter….perfect for any page theme.
@HipKitClub @KimWatson @crate_paper @pinkpaislee @americancrafts #scrapbookingkit #layout #papercrafts #12x12 The Embellishment Add-on kit has an adorable camera stamp included. Stamping it in the magenta Avery Elle ink included in the Color Add-on kit makes for the cutest of accents. Teamed with wood veneer, stickers & other accents…makes for an adorable cluster.

Pages like this are so easy to create with perfectly co-ordinated kits like Hip Kits.If you aren’t already a subscriber…I urge you to take a look at the August kit & Add-ons….they are drop dead gorgeous!!!

Running Sushi With Irit

Hi! Irit here with my last layout using the June kits. I had such a great time using up this kit, and made lots of layouts, which means many memories documented in my albums. My last layout is rather simple, I used two of my embellishment clusters (check my first post using this kit for that tutorial), which made creating this layout fast and easy.

JUNE 2015 HIP KIT CLUB Layout, created by Irit Landgraf. To purchase our amazing HIP KITS and/or to subscribe to our HIP KIT CLUB visit our online store at WWW.HIPKITCLUB.NET

I started this layout with embossing on my white cardstock from the cardstock kit, using the stamp and embossing powder from the color kit. After heat embossing it, I added some pigment inks to create a watercolor effect on my background. Yes, you can get that look also with pigment inks!

I also used the Avery Elle pigment inks to customize the Evalicious wood veneers pieces from the embellishment kit so that they would coordinate with my color scheme. Since I used up all my 12*12 patterned papers from the kit, I grabbed the lovely wood grain paper we got in the May kit to mount my layout on.

Here’s the video that shows exactly how I made this layout-

Thanks for visiting and I’ll be back next Thursday with my first project using the July kits! Have a lovely day!

Hello Little Moments | Kim Watson

Hey friends…how are you on this fine Saturday afternoon?

I am excited to be able to share my latest Hip Kits page using the June kit & add-ons.

Hello little Moments by Kim Watson
@HipKitClub @KimWatson @fancypantsdsgns @crate_paper  @shopEvalicious #summercrafting #12x12 #layout #scrapbooking

This kit is bursting with so much gorgeous Fancy Pants Designs papers, tags & a mini book pack from the #summersun collection. It is so fresh & summery, making it super easy to put this cute page together.

@HipKitClub @KimWatson @fancypantsdsgns @crate_paper @shopEvalicious #summercrafting #12x12 #layout #scrapbooking Influenced by the Insta Pack from Fancy Pants Designs, I opted for a grid design for this layout. Each of the 4 clusters, made up of a square of patterned paper, tags, sentiments & sweet embellishments. Recoloring wood veneer sentiments from Evalicious is the best discovery I have made all year. A little watercolor paint in two shades of pink, blended to create an ombre effect…is the perfect way to jazz up a tag.
@HipKitClub @KimWatson @fancypantsdsgns @crate_paper @shopEvalicious #summercrafting #12x12 #layout #scrapbooking Again layers are what make this little cluster work so well. A fussy cut flower, gold glitter sun shape, an acetate chevron accent & tags, seem random, but the colors together help balance their corner & keeping everything flush right…adds tension to the overall design.

@HipKitClub @KimWatson @fancypantsdsgns @crate_paper @shopEvalicious #summercrafting #12x12 #layout #scrapbooking Now for an adorable photo of our sweet little family from some years back. Layering subtle colored tags are the way to really draw attention to it.
@HipKitClub @KimWatson @fancypantsdsgns @crate_paper @shopEvalicious #summercrafting #12x12 #layout #scrapbooking The last cluster makes use of a fabulous card from the Fancy Pants Designs Insta pack…it has tiny pineapples all over it. Roll on SUMMER!!! Craft, off-set with a gold foil die-cut title & gold glitter sentiment, make this corner extra special!

And there you have it…a clean, fresh page filled with super cute papers & accents. I hope you have found it inspirational. If you have…remember to share your pages with the whole gang over in the Hip Kit Club member forum. Here is the link if you aren’t already a member.

Have a fabulous rest of your weekend! See you next time!

Good Times With Irit

Hi! Irit here with a new project using the June kits. I thought it was time to use that gorgeous Simple Stories paper from the main kit after hoarding it just a little. Here’s my finished layout, again using multiple photos like last week.

JUNE 2015 HIP KIT CLUB Layout, created by Irit Landgraf. To purchase our amazing HIP KITS and/or to subscribe to our HIP KIT CLUB visit our online store at WWW.HIPKITCLUB.NET

I love tone on tone and color matching, so I used the blue and red frames on the ‘appropriate’ areas of my background paper. The Fancy Pants tags from the embellishment kit are perfect for journaling.

2015-07-13e 14

I totally lifted Missy’s and Terhi’s tips of coloring wood veneers and used the pigment Avery Elle inks from the color kit to customize the little Evalicious wood veneer camera from the embellishment kit. Doesn’t it look super summery? Love it! I added some Stickles from my stash and glossy accents to it.

I added some enamel dots and some gold mist splatters and called it done! Here’s the process video-

Guest Designer, Christin Gronnslett – Summer Vacation

Hi everyone!  It’s Christin Gronnslett here with you again.  I’m excited to be sharing my second project created with our June Hip Kits.   School ended June 19th and the weather hasn’t been that great so I found some more pictures from last summer.  In contrast to many scrappers I am not so into the documentation part of scrapbooking (it might come as a surprise a I am actually a historian…..).  The kids would love for me to do PL, but I can’t force myself to scrap the bad photos that would come of it, so I just find pictures that I like the colors of and that are fun, like these from a trip to the beach last year.

Summer vacation - Christin Gronnslett Hip Kit Club June 2015 01If you look closely you can see I painted with liquid watercolors to create an ombre effect on my background.  Then I added papers in the same colors from the June main kit with embellishments from the June Embellishment kit.    Sometimes I need to find new ways of layering the papers and pics.  I really don’t like everything to be straight/linear/square and that is also why I always add color underneath my layers.

Relax with Irit

Hi! Irit here with another layout using the lovely June kits! For this layout I used strips of patterned papers, a great way to use lots of pattern without overwhelming the page. I focused on the warm yellows and oranges in the kit, which complemented my pictures perfectly. Here’s the finished layout-

JUNE 2015 HIP KIT CLUB Layout, created by Irit Landgraf. To purchase our amazing HIP KITS and/or to subscribe to our HIP KIT CLUB visit our online store at WWW.HIPKITCLUB.NET

After I had the basic design the rest was easy! I used white cardstock from the cardstock kit to keep the layout clean and fresh. Embellishing was easy, yellow on yellow, pink on pink! I used a combination of goodies from the main kit and the embellishment kit.

2015-07-08a 13

I love the Evalicious wood veneers in the embellishment kit, and decided to color them with the Avery Elle pigment ink from the color kit.

Here’s the video showing how this layout came together-

See you next Thursday with a new project! Have a lovely day!

Sun & Fun | Terhi Koskinen

Hello everyone! It’s Terhi here, with a huge gold inspiration. Some might think the trend of using gold is out, but I think it’s timeless. If the photograph lets, gold is the best color to bring the cherished memories onto your layout.

I used our gorgeous June Kits, to be exact June Main Kit, June Embellishment Kit, June Project Life KitJune Cardstock Kit, and June Color Kit.20150625-IMG_4300

In the photograph is my younger daughter. Her face could be next to words “gold” or “sun” in a dictionary, but maybe all mothers thinks the same. Anyway, I picked all golden pieces from June Main Kit and created a background using yellow ink from June Color Kit to make the gold really pop up.

Here is the process video, enjoy!

This second layout includes almost all die cuts from Fancy Pants Designs – Summer Fun – Insta Pack Die Cuts we have in our June Project Life Kit. I usually don’t find craft color very attractive, but combining it to yellow and gold did almost magical effect. The craft color gives nice contrast, but doesn’t loose the light feeling as black scraps would have done.

This layout has all the golden pieces which didn’t end to the first layout, and I love the way it turned out. Note the embossed camera stamps on the background. Tiny, but important effect which was done with the clear embossing powder from the June Color Kit.terhi (6 of 7)

Introducing Christin Gronnslett – our July Guest Designer!

Christin Gronnslett

Hello !  My name is Christin Grønnslett, a 41 year old from Norway.  I live in a small town called Røyken 30 minutes south of our capitol with husband and two kids (8 and 5)  I first came into contact with scrapbooking  in 2002 after living and traveling in the US for six months,  but it wasn’t until my daughter was born in 2009 I started to scrap on a daily basis, and I haven’t looked back. I started a pretty clean and simple scrapper with cardstock as base, and I have stayed true to my style. I have just grown bolder with practice, I have added more layers of paper, but also more layers of mixed media products.  My passion lies in 12×12 layouts and I love to find color products to match and  enhance the photos I want to work with and the materials I have at hand.  You will never see me fill an entire page; I need my white space…  Words that has been used to describe my style: artsy, whimsical, fresh and colorful.  When the kids are asleep I sneak down in my scraproom in the basement to scrap.

Christin Grønnslett here and I am so excited to be here and share with you some projects I have made with the amazing June Hip Kits!

Fun in the sun - Christin Gronnslett Hip Kit Club June 2015 04I want to share with you first how I create my signature style – which is drops of watercolor layered with stamping (and stenciling)   (Excuse the poor picture quality I only had my Iphone available. )  To create the (effect of) watercolor background I start with white cardstock and prep it with clear gesso. The clear gesso is doesn’t give you a yellow tint like regular white gesso and the colors doesn’t run off the page like it often does with the white gesso.. You can switch it out with matte medium, but the clear gesso will be a little matter and have a rougher texture and can handle watery colors better.     When the gesso has dried (I actually let the cardstock air dry to keep it as flat as possible as the heat can bend the paper more) I start adding the color. For this background I have used Ecoline which is a liquid watercolor and a big brush to drop the first layers of colors. I let it dry a little and then add more drops and let the colors mix, and adding more and more drops.  In addition to the Ecoline I have used mists from several different manufacturers (the Heidi Swapp mist however does not work well with other mists to create the watercolor effect), and as a top layer I added drops of Izink pigment ink.  Next step is adding stamps, and I used the Avery Elle Raspberry and Daisy Pigment Ink Pads from the June Color Kit, you can see the rich colors in the pads here.

Fun in the sun - Christin Gronnslett Hip Kit Club June 2015 01

For the final step I used the Orange Ranger Embossing Powder.   Unfortunately I ended up covering most of the embossing….  I don’t always have plans with my backgrounds, I mostly play with the colors.

Fun in the sun - Christin Gronnslett Hip Kit Club June 2015 02

Here is the final background before adding the papers.

Fun in the sun - Christin Gronnslett Hip Kit Club June 2015 03

As much as I like making backgrounds I love to layer. I usually don’t use as much paper as I do here, but when the top paper is pretty toned down I can do it and still feel that my photo is the focal point.

Fun in the sun - Christin Gronnslett Hip Kit Club June 2015 04

I have mixed the June main kit with embellishments from the June 2015 Embellishment Add-On Kit.
